New Year Fáfnir is a ranged physical attacker (range = 2). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

Fáfnir's weapon, Niðavellir Sprig, is pretty loaded to the brim with the following effects:

1	Grants Fáfnir Spd+3.
2	Enables 【Canto (2)】 during turns 1 through 4.
3	Grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+5 if Fáfnir initiates combat or is not adjacent to an ally.
4	Neutralizes any skills that prevent him from making follow-up attacks.
5	Inflicts the Guard status per attack.
6	Inflicts Def/Res-7 on his target and nearby enemy units within 2 spaces of the target through their next actions.

With all these effects, we need to make sure Fáfnir takes advantage of all of them during combat, so keep in mind that he needs to be either the one initiating combat or not next to anyone during the enemy phase!

More Buffs with Atk/Spd Solo 4 and Rouse Atk/Def 4

Our King of Niðavellir isn't satisfied with just the buffs on his weapon, so the rest of his kit compliments him with even more buffs.

Atk/Spd Solo 4 further boosts his firepower by granting him Atk/Spd+7 and thus allowing him to score follow-ups easier, while Rouse Atk/Def 4 bulks him up even further by granting him Atk/Def+6 when he starts the turn not adjacent to any ally.

No Close Counter

Having no Close Counter in his kit means that Fáfnir is vulnerable to melee units, as he has no means to retaliate when they come up to say hi.

Weak to Cavalry Effective Weapons

New Year Fáfnir takes 1.5x damage from cavalry-effective weapons like Thani or Binding Reginleif, and one blow from this type of weapon is sure to take him down.

However, you cannot inherit all these skills off of a single copy of him, unless you inherit other tiers of the skills from other units first.

We recommend, however, that you build a copy of him first as he is a great unit to have in your party and his weapon is incredibly useful to have.
