When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.
Dedue's best IVs are +Def and -Spd. He is mainly a physical tank that soaks up damage for his team, so this IV is most ideal for him. He does not rely on Spd for defense or offense so Spd is very unimportant for him. Thus, it is the best bane he can take.
If you are trying to build a +10 Dedue, +Dedue is the best IV. This is for the same reasons as above. With a +10 merge, Dedue's Def reaches 52, which helps him soak up physical damage for his more fragile allies.

This is a heavily invested Near Save tank build for Dedue. Emblem Eirika Ring grants him a brave effect on his first combat, allowing him to burst down the first foe that attacks into him. D Counter Echo isn't completely necessary, but it prevents him from being kited by ranged foes.

Refined Taciturn Axe inflicts Atk/Def-6 and an extra Atk/Def penalty equal to 6 + 10% of Dedue's Def to his foe, grants Dedue bonus true damage, true damage reduction, and 7 HP post-combat healing.
More importantly, refined Taciturn Axe applies【Divine Vein (Stone)】 to Dedue's space and nearby spaces after each of his actions and at the start of every Aether Raids defense match. This effect is similar to Attuned Hector and is part of what makes him so strong. Dedue having a similar effect will increase his ability to compete with modern offensive threats and is worth refining and using Dedue over most other Near Save options.
Refined Taciturn Axe is a great defensive weapon and should be refined if you like Dedue or if you need a physical Near Save tank.

Dedue is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

As an armored unit, Dedue is restricted by his movement, but this could be remedied if paired with a team using Armor March 3.
Alternatively, you can always give him the Armored Boots Sacred Seal.
Without Distant Counter built into his kit, he has no way to retaliate against enemy units who can just chip away at his HP by kiting him.
If his A skill is replaced with Distant Counter, he will be losing some of the bonus bulk and bite from Sturdy Stance 3, along with taking the full brunt of an enemy's attack if they carry buffs.
Dedue takes 1.5x damage from armor-effective weapons like Armorslayer+ or Hammer+, and one blow from these types of weapons is sure to take him down.
Make sure you know what weapons you are up against before hopping too far into the line of battle!
