When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.

+Atk/-Spd

The best IVs for Duessel are+Atk and -Spd. A +Atk IV will effectively raise this units' ability to deal damage. His Spd is not important as it is very unreliable. Additionally, Obsidian Lance can guarantee him follow-up attacks so forcing Spd into his kit is not needed at all. With all that said, Spd is the ideal bane for Duessel.

+Atk for a +10 Merge

We recommend a +Atk IV when merging Duessel to 10. His Atk levels combined with the guaranteed follow-up attack from Obsidian Lance that is quite easy to trigger, will allow him to attain a decent level of offensive prowess.

If you prefer a full on tank Duessel, you can also go for +Res or +Def stats depending on your needs.

How to Use, Explanation

Compared to his base kit, this DC build is more offensive as it allows Duessel to return attacks to every foe. This will cost him some bulk though so look out for that. Distant Counter works well with Obsidian Lance as it grants Duessel the ability to score follow-up attacks on every unit that attacks him. For the Sacred Seal, we recommend Atk/Def Solo 3. This ups his damage and improves his match-ups with physical units, but it lacks value against magic units so try to adjust. Sol replaces Bonfire because he will be deliberately tanking attacks with this build and it will provide him with the sustain necessary to run an enemy phase build.

How to Use, Explanation

It is a pretty simple build that requires only an assist skill and a Sacred Seal to be added to Duessel as his base kit is very complete. In this case, we use the very reliable Reposition and a Atk/Def Solo 3 which has natural synergy with the rest of Duessels kit. Feel free to change either skills to suit your needs, but this verson of a budget build is pretty reliable in most situations.

Duessel is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

Duessel Strengths

Weapon cripples foe's Atk/Def stats and guarantees follow-up attacks

Simply by having no adjacent allies, Obsidian Lance grants Duessel a guaranteed follow-up attack in both phases. With the same trigger condition, It also inflicts -6 Atk/Def on his foe during combat.

The Atk/Def penalty fully stacks with Lull Atk/Def 3's penalty so Duessel can easily get -9 Atk/Def inflicted to his foe on top of neutralizing foe's bonuses to Atk/Def.

Since his is a physical attacker, the Def penalty will increase his offensive prowess and the Atk penalty will work well with his A and B skills to make him extra bulkier.

Massive Def/Res boost!

Def/Res Solo 4 and Rouse Def/Res 3 combine for a +13 Def/Res bonus if both are triggered. Plus, they have very similar trigger conditions so it would not hassle Duessel users that much to activate both. These bonuses on top of Duessels aready amazing defensive statline make him a very reliable wall in most situations. Just watch out for maxed Reinhardts that carry Lancebreaker 3.

Take note, Def/Res Solo checks if Duessel has adjacent allies when he enters combat and the latter checks at the start of every turn!

Simple and easy-to-use kit

To activate all of the skill effects discussed above, Duessel simply needs to be away from his allies. This is a very simple trigger condition that even new summoners can keep up with!

Duessel Weaknesses

Weak with poor positioning

Remember the benefits of having no adjacent allies! Duessel is a totally different unit when all of his skills are activated. This makes him quite tricky to use in maps that are in closed corridors such as Urusla's Grand Hero Battle map shown below:

You can easily trigger Obsidian Lance and Def/Res Solo 4 when initiating as they check Duessel's position in relation to allies upon enterting combat, but be wary that Rouse Def/Res 3 checks for allies at the beginning of the turn! Make sure be mindful of Duessel's positioning when ending your turn.

Weak to Cavalry Effective Weapons

Duessel takes 1.5x damage from cavalry-effective weapons like Ridersbane, and one blow from this type of weapon is sure to take him down. Make sure you know what weapons you are up against before hopping too far into the line of battle!

Flexible Unit That Can Fit in Any Team

Duesseli can fit in a wide variety of teams as he can mostly take care of himself.

He can be paired with those that can boost his firepower even more, like Legendary Eliwood's Bonus Doubler effect on his Ardent Durandal or any of the dancers above.

Heroes with Cavalry-Effective Weapons

As a cavalry unit, Masquerade Sigurd is weak to weapons that are effective against cavalry.

There are many weapons that are effective against cavalry units in the game, so take care and don't let him get attacked!

Tome Users

Duessel's Res is significantly lower than his Def, so he can be defeated by units that use magic.

This is extra effective if the tome unit has a cavalry-effective weapon such as Bridal Micaiah or Brave Lysithea.

Bulky Units

Duessel is pretty bulky himself, but you can use armored units in a war of attrition against him or use the weapon triangle to gain an advantage.

Brave Edelgard and Legendary Edelgard come to mind regarding this, but Brave Hector works as well as he can power through with his sheer bulk and the numerous effects of his refined Maltet.

Duessel can be used to inherit the skills Lull Atk/Def 3 or Def/Res Solo 4. If you are able to inherit Def/Res Solo 3 from another unit, you can inherit both Def/Res Solo 4 and Lull Atk/Def 3 from Duessel. However, Duessel is powerful and very reliable unit.
