What Kind of Character Are They? | ・His exclusive weapon is effective on flying units ・Special skill inflicts damage over a wide range ・Can buff his allies' Res stat |
Might: 14 Range: 2 Effective against flying units. |
Cooldown Count = 4 Before combat this unit initiates, foes in a wide area around the target take damage equal to (unit’s Atk minus foe’s Def or Res). |
Grants +5 to max HP. |
Grants adjacent allies Res +4 during combat. |
Resplendent Attire has been released for Merric. With their Resplendent Attire equipped, they will have a different appearance, have new voice clips, and additionally, gain +2 to all stats. If you really like Merric or you want to make them stronger, you may want to buy a FEH pass and get the Resplendent Attire.
Stat | Superboon/Superbane | IV Recommendation |
---|---|---|
HP (19) | ★★☆☆☆ | |
Atk (21) | ★★★★☆ | |
Spd (8) | ★★★★★ | |
Def (6) | ★★★☆☆ | |
Res (4) | ★★☆☆☆ |
◯ = Stat gains +4 with a superboon, ✕= Stat goes down by -4 with a superbane, - = No assets or flaws
See the IV Checker for All Units | Trait Fruits—How to Change IVs |
When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.
The best IVs for Merric are +Atk and -HP. Since his weapon has a 1.5x multiplier against flying units, a +Atk IV maximizes this perk. Additionally, his Atk is a superboon so you should take advantage of it as much as possible. His HP stat is of less importance, so it is safe to take it as a bane.
We recommend a +Spd IV when merging Merric to 10. At +10 Merges, Merric' Atk will reach such high levels that pushing it up higher is a waste. At this point, it would be better to opt with a +Spd IV instead to help him take less follow-up attacks and allow him to make some follow-up attacks on his own. With this IV, he reaches 39 Spd which is definitely at a fair level.
If you plan to inherit something like Special Spiral 3 onto Merric, go with a +Atk IV.

Moonbow

:
Fury 4
:
-
|
Dark Excalibur's spec. ref. effect allows Merric for a quick Moonbow activation in his first combat. After that, Time's Pulse 3 takes care of the next activations. Fury 4 and Blade Session 3 give him the Spd to reliably score one-sided Desperation engagements.
:
Glimmer
:
-
|
:
-
|
This build allows Merric to one-shot or two-shot fliers! Make sure to get his spec. eff. refine. He will need the follow-up attack for extra damage if he wants to take out non-fliers.

Bonfire
:
-
|
:
-
|
This build utilizes refined Dark Excalibur's cooldown reduction to reduce Bonfire to a 1 charge special, upon which Merric will activate on his counterattack. Special Spiral will then reduce Merric's special cooldown after combat, repeating the process once again. Close Counter is used to be able to retaliate against melee opponents. The rest of the skillset aims to boost Merric's attack and defense as much as possible.
Exclusive Weapon Effect from Refining (Special Effect Type) | |
---|---|
SP: 400 | |
Might: 14 Range: 2 HP: Effective against flying units. Accelerates Special trigger (cooldown count-1). If unit is within 2 spaces of magic or staff ally, grants Atk/Spd+5 during combat. :500 :200 |
|
It is a pretty simple and straightforward effect. If you have another magic or staff ally in your party, the trigger condition is pretty ignorable as it is extremely easy to meet. Though it is convenient to trigger, Merric is awarded greatly as a dual-phase +5 Atk/Spd is pretty helpful in most match-ups.
This upgrade is best used when Merric is deployed as an anti-flying unit.
Exclusive Weapon Effect from Refining (Special Effect Type) | |
---|---|
SP: 400 | |
Might: 14 Range: 2 HP: Deals +10 damage when Special triggers. At the start of turn 1, grants Special cooldown count-2. :500 :200 |
|
If you do not need Merric as an anti-flying unit, you can run a Desperation build with Dark Excalibur. Because of Dark Excalibur, Glimmer can be activated in the first player phase if Merric lands a follow-up attack. This is why we recommend Threaten Spd and Speed +3 in this build. This Glimmer will be damage boosted by Dark Excalibur so we recommend taking out a priority target with Merric.
In this build, we recommend getting Fury 3 so facilitate getting into Desperation range. When Merric is in Desperation range, he can easily sweep through enemy teams especially if he is heavily supported by allies.

Note: Stats bonuses from skills are not taken into account.
Merric is a ranged magic attacker (range = 2). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Res stat.
Excalibur possesses the niche attribute of being a tome, but being strong against flying units. This allows Merric to fill-in the specific niche of a magic flying unit check! The power of this effect is compounded by the fact that most magic units have mediocre Res stats. This makes Merric a good check to units like Tana and Valter.
Merric can either go for a specially refined Dark Excalibur or a specially refined Excalibur. The former is a straight-up offensive option and the latter is provides more utility to Merric. Know your needs and aim for the one that suits your goals best. Read more about both upgrades in the weapon refine section.
Merric's C skill, Spur Res 3 has the simple effect of granting adjacent allies +4 Res. It works in both phases and does not expire unless Merric is out of position. You could say that it works well with Excalibur's special effect reinfe, but we recommend swapping it out for other skills once you have the resources to do so.
Merric's Res only sits at 19 at Lv.40. This makes it easy for magic users to take him out. Be mindful of Merric's positioning in relation to magical units that can easily take him out. This extremely low level of Res makes him vulnerable to being taken out even by blue mages like Reinhardt and Linde.

May I ask about your summoning magic? You tie the skies together? Is that wind magic like my own? I studied in Khadein, the City of Magic. It was a remarkable place, with desert sand to the horizons… Thank you for what you do. Your guidance keeps everyone motivated and safe. I’ve known Prince Marth and his sister Princess Elice for many years. They are truly good people. I’ve always been physically weak. But I wanted to protect...people precious to me, so I studied magic. |
