Clive Best IVs

Recommended IVs

Stat Superboon/Superbane IV Recommendation
HP (19) Normal HP ★★★☆☆
Atk (24) No Attack IV ★★★★★
Spd (6) Spd Boon ★★★☆☆
Def (8) No Def IV ★★★★☆
Res (4) No Res IV ★★☆☆☆

◯ = Stat gains +4 with a superboon, ✕= Stat goes down by -4 with a superbane, - = No assets or flaws

See the IV Checker for All Units Trait Fruits—How to Change IVs

When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.

Neutral IVs by default!

As a hero obtainable only through Tempest Trials, Clive will always have neutral IVs by default. The only way to access IVs for this unit is through using Trait Fruits.

+Atk/-Res

The best IVs for Clive are +Atk and -Res. A higher Atk stat allows Clive to increase the range of units he can take out in one hit. With this IV on top of some investments, you can surely take out a lot of armored units especially ones with a red attribute.

+Atk for a +10 Merge

We recommend a +Atk IV when merging Clive to 10. This is for the same reasons as above. If you prefer a physically defensive Clive, you can go for a +Def IV instead.

How to Use, Explanation

This build makes Clive a good bulky support, as the +Eff refine on Lordly Lance buffs him and his support partner. Double Drive Atk aids his nearby allies and Quick Riposte makes up for his poor speed. You can opt for a more supportive B skill and make Quick Riposte his Sacred Seal instead.

We recommend the Special Effect Refine for Lordly Lance

The special effect refine of Lordly Lance is simple and easy to use. A +3 buff to all stats is very helpful regardless of the situation. You should definitely get this upgrade if Clive is one of your main units. Changing support partners can be done at any time so it is not really a limiting factor to Lordly Lance's usefulness.

Clive is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

Clive Strengths

Good physical bulk for a cavalry unit

In addition to Clive's naturally high Defs stat, he possesses Estcutcheon which upon activation, decreases the damage taken from adjacent enemies by 30%. That is a wide coverage as close physical units are one of the most common in the game.

Hit and Run can be a useful utility skill

Clive's B skill, Hit and Run, moves Clive a space backward if he initiates combat. This allows for some pretty useful interactions such as having an ally use Drag Back on him. If the unit he attacked is an armored unit, they will not be able to hit Clive in the next phase. Units in the back line of the enemy who can normally attack an initiating ally can also lose reach of Clive. Since Clive has cavalry mobility, he can escape all kinds of danger if Hit and Run is combined with a refresher-assist unit. If he has Drag Back himself, he too can pull said refresher ally into a safer area.

It is a lackluster skill without the strategy, but if you put some thought into it, Hit and Run can win you some maps.

Hit and Run synergizes well with Lordly Lance against Armored Units

Since Lordly Lance is strong against armored units and said units are limited in mobility without the right set-up, Clive can exploit a number of armored units. He attacks an armored unit, Hit and Run triggers and an ally uses Drag Back on him. This creates a 2 space gap that armored units would normally not be able to close. This means Clive can take out an armored unit without them being able to initiate an attack on him.

Access to a special effect refine

Clive's Lordly Lance has an access to a special effect refine. Read more about it in the weapon refine section of this article!

Clive Weaknesses

Low Res

Clive's Res only sits at 23 at Lv.40. This makes it easy for magic users to take him out. Be mindful of Clive's positioning in relation to magical units that can easily take him out.

Low Spd

Clive has low Spd. Even if he is a generally durable unit in the physical department, green units with high Spd can deal heavy damage or even take him down. Be mindful of Clive's position in relation to units that pose a threat to him!

Characters with Cavalry Buffs and Dance/Sing Skills

Since Clive is a cavalry unit, he benefits from skills like Hone Cavalry. Clive also greatly benefits from Reyson and Leanne who both have Sing. He is a cavalry unit that can move 3 squares per action so Sing makes him extremely mobile. This allows him to move in and out of the danger zone or attack multiple enemies in the same turn.

Units with weapons strong against cavalry

Clive is a cavalry unit and this makes him weak to units that have cavalry-effective weapons. Please pay close attention to Clive's positioning in relation to magic units that are strong against cavalry heroes. His Res is pretty low as well and it does not help this problem of his.

A great example would be Micaiah who is a high-powered magical attacker that possesses a tome strong against cavalry units.

Lv 40 5★ Dialogue

Lv 40 5★ Dialogue become available when a hero attains Lv. 40 at 5★ rarity.

It’s strange. As soon as I see you, I feel the tension that has built up within me crumble into nothing.
As a knight commander, I always strive to embody the qualities of a leader. It is my station.
Between us, however...I’ll admit that I have sometimes thought about casting all of it away.
I have never spoken to anyone about this, you must understand.
You...are someone I can confide in. I feel I can tell you just about anything. Why is this?
Perhaps it is because we hail from different worlds, and different walks of life…
Though that may be true...that is not the whole truth.
It’s your charisma. You charm us all... And we follow you, both on and off the battlefield. That’s how I see it.
