Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) has a large collection of guns consisting of Primary and Secondary guns available for players to use in Multiplayer! Read on to find out how many guns are in Modern Warfare 2, and what types of guns are in the game.
List of Contents
There are 53 guns available for use in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer. 44 are Primary weapons and the remaining 9 are Secondary weapons.
Each of these guns have unique stats ranging from damage, accuracy, recoil control, and other factors which affect their overall performance in a match.
One of the returning features introduced back in Modern Warfare 2019, is the revamped version of the Gunsmith called Gunsmith 2.0. The Gunsmith allows players to upgrade their weapons by adding Attachments to increase their effectiveness.

Shotguns | Handguns | Launchers |
Assault Rifles are high damage guns that excel at varying ranges depending on your attachment setup and chosen AR. They are the most used gun type in the game as they have been proven to be both reliable and easy-to-master.
Submachine Guns or SMGs are primarily used at close to medium ranges due to their extremely fast firing rate leading to a quick time-to-kill (TTK). Melt your opponents at shorter distances and dominate small, clustered maps using an SMG loadout.
Light Machine Guns affect your mobility negatively but make up for it with its high damage and sustained fire. This gun type is best used when holding and defending key areas such as Control Points in the Domination game mode.
Sniper Rifles are mostly used at elevated positions where players can see open areas or main passageways of the map. Due to this, they are popularly used in Ground War and Invasion matches.
Marksman Rifles are quite similar to Sniper Rifles but with increased mobility and rate of fire. These gun types are recommended for players who want to shoot at enemies from long-range while also manuevering to different key positions.
Battle Rifles are commonly mistaken as Marksman Rifles but the difference between the two is that the latter is only effective at long-range whereas the Battle Rifle works extremely well at close-medium range fights. They deal high damage at the cost of fire rate, so players should be sure to make each shot count!
Shotguns are best used in small maps with narrow corridors and chokepoints. They are commonly used in clearing out buildings or pushing objectives due to their one-shot kill potential at close-quarters.
Handguns are a secondary type of gun and are usually only used as a backup weapon when a player runs out of ammo while using their primary weapon. However, with the right attachments, these can turn into a weapon that can rival the damage and reliablity of your primary in a pinch.
Launchers are a bit more niche in their use as they are primarily deployed when destroying vehicles or taking down enemy aircraft. Some can be manually launched to kill players, but they are often reserved when the skies are filled with enemy UAVs.
