Players are getting a display name error related to their Activision account when logging in to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Read on for a list of possible solutions and fixes to this bug when getting the error message that your current display name is not allowed.

How to Fix the Display Name Error

Change Your In-Game Name Temporarily

Your current display name is not allowed. Please choose a new Activision Account name. |

To fix the display name error, follow the steps below until you arrive at a name that is allowed by the system. Do note that this name change will be temporary as the game gives you rename tokens until the bug is sorted out by Activision.
| 1 | Change your display name temporarily. Note: To play it safe, make sure to enter a completely different name and not a variation of your current one that was flagged. |

| 2 | If the system says you've run out of rename tokens, Quit to Desktop > Restart MW2 > Repeat Rename. Do this until the name change goes through. |
| 3 | After you successfully change your name, the game should display your new name and a free rename token after relaunching MW2. |
Save the Rename Token for the Full Release
Remember to save the rename token you're given after successfully changing your name for the full release. Since additional rename tokens need to be purchased from the in-game story using real money, it will be prudent to wait until Activision irons out this bug before you revert back to your original name.
