Modern Warfare 2 (MW2)

Best Aim Assist Settings

how does aim assist work mw2
Aim Assist is a system in Modern Warfare 2 that helps players more precisely fire at targets by slowing down their crosshair as it nears an enemy. Read on to learn how Aim Assist works on controllers, and the best Aim Assist settings to choose.

Best Aim Assist Settings

For the most optimal results, set your game to the following settings via the Controller menu under Advanced:

Aim Assist
Target Aim Assist On
Target Aim Assist On
Aim Assist Black Ops
Aim Response Curve Type Dynamic
ADS Aim Assist On
ADS Sens. Multiplier (Focus) 1.00
ADS Sensitivity Transition Timing Instant

Then, in the Graphics menu, under View, select the following:

Field of View
Field of View (FOV) 120
ADS Field of View Affected
Weapon Field of View Wide
Vehicle Field of View Wide
Camera
1st Person Camera Movement Least (50%)
3rd Person Camera Movement Least (50%)

Most players will find a strong Aim Assist response from these settings. If these do not suit your preferences, try adjusting the settings one at a time to find something that works for you. In particular, the Weapon Field of View setting is largely up to player preference.

Default Precision Focusing Black Ops

Default Aim Assist

The Default setting will be the best choice for the majority of players starting out. This slows down your aim right before you ADS at an enemy. This means your controller sensitivity lowers to make it easier to maintain your optics at a target. This is great for tracking enemies on the move.

Precision Aim Assist

Precision is best for players experienced in Call of Duty games. The slowdown mechanic for Precision is stronger than Default but it only kicks in when you're already aiming at an enemy's hitbox, rather than right before.

This makes accuracy when using optics important since tracking enemies will be more difficult. Burst and single-shot weapons like Sniper Rifles will benefit greatly due to the stronger slowdown paired with a lower fire rate.

Focusing Aim Assist

The Focusing setting is great for newer players since it combines the strong slowdown of Precision with the larger Aim Assist radius of Default. This means Aim Assist will activate as long as you're aiming and shooting even just near an enemy, and the stronger slowdown means it's easier to reorient your aim if you're missing.

Black Ops

This is similar to the Default setting but is used by those more accustomed to Black Ops games in the franchise. The slowdown of this setting may feel a bit stronger than Default.

Helps Controller Users Target Enemies

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 - Sensitivity
Aim Assist helps controller users more accurately fire at targets by slowing down their crosshairs or optics as they ADS over an enemy. This ensures they're not constantly aiming past enemies and missing shots.

Mouse and keyboard players can't use this. It's an important mechanic to balance gunfights between M&K and controller users since it's easier to aim with a mouse.

To enable Aim Assist, open the Controller settings menu and head to the Aim Assist section. Go to Target Aim Assist and switch it to On.
