The Abbot's Gambit | The Man Behind The Man |
The quest starts outside Dover Fortress immediately after stealing King Aelfred's orders from the emissary during The Abbot's Gambit quest.

1 | Report to Cynebert |
Travel west towards Folcanstan and speak to Cynebert and Basim. |
2 | Follow Basim |
Follow Basim to Beamasfield. |
3 | Find and kidnap Tedmund |
Look for Tedmund in Beamasfield. You can either do this quietly via sneaking around or fight through soldiers to get to Tedmund. TIPS: Basim will not alert any soldiers with his presence if you decide to sneak around Beamasfield. Try hitting Tedmund once if the Tie Up action isn't showing up. You might have to reload your save if the issue persists. |
4 | Carry Tedmund |
Carry Tedmund and bring him to the Medeuuage Megaliths located north of Beamasfield. A cutscene plays out once you drop him at the indicated area. |
5 | Decide Shergar's fate |
It turns out that the Tedmund you captured in Beamasfield is an impostor named Shergar. Quest objectives going forward will split into two paths depending on your decision about Shergar during the cutscene. This quest ultimatley leads towards the same conclusion regardless of which dialogue option you chose and will not affect the story arc in any way going forward. TIP: Take Shergar with you if you prefer to avoid conflict in the Dane Camp. |

Follow Shergar to the Dane Camp. He will initiate a short conversation with the Saxons' leader and try to let the captured Danes go. |
7 | Talk to the Saxon |
A set of dialogue options will pop up during Shergar's conversation with the Saxons' leader. Choose the first two dialogue options if you prefer a peaceful resolution Choose the third option to engage in open combat. |
8 | Talk to the Danes |
Position yourself behind the Danes to remove their bonds and set them free. A series of cutscenes will play out immediately afterward. The quest ends after the cutscenes. |

Find the Dane Camp located northwest from Medeuuage Megaliths. TIP: Use Odin's Sight to determine its exact location. |
7 | Clear the camp |
Eliminate all Saxons inside the Dane Camp. |

Talk to the Danes after freeing them. A series of cutscenes will play out immediately afterward. The quest ends after the cutscenes. |
