How To Counter The Gyan - Gundam UC Engage

The Gyan is one of Gundam U.C. Engage's most powerful and popular units. You will run into this powerful mobile suit often in PvP, so how do you counter it? Read on to learn about the Gyan, its weaknesses, and which mobile suits can beat this MS.

The Gyan is a top-tier unit mainly because of its ability to force enemy units to attack only its allied Armored units for the first 15 seconds of combat, or until no allied Armored units are left, whichever comes first. This keeps the attention away from the Gyan's DPS allies, allowing them to freely hit opponents and use their EX skills without fear of retaliation.

With plenty of investments and the right team comp, the Gyan can also be a potent damage threat thanks to its EX skill that deals 722% ATK as damage, and an additional 180% for each unit in its team with the Zeon Forces-Affiliated tag. In a full Zeon Forces-Affiliated team, the Gyan can deal 1802% of its ATK on EX, and it can fire it off early into the match at max Transcendent level thanks to the 50% EX gauge granted when the battle begins.

Overall, the Gyan is a must-have for Arena, as it gives its team's main DPSs an easier time doing their job. Taking out Gyan-centered teams can be quite troublesome, but learning about its weaknesses and counters can help you master the different strategies to beating these.

Gyan Weaknesses

Reliance on Strong Tanks

The Gyan thrives when alongside The-O, the Penelope, or a combination of powerful top-tier Armored units, given the Gyan's skill that forces enemies to attack its Armored allies. This means that without good Armored suits around it, the opposing team will just quickly annihilate the Gyan's Armored allies and move on to killing the Gyan's team.

To consistently beat the Gyan, you have to be able to quickly deal with tanks faster than its allies killing your team. Know which units are good with the Gyan and what counters them as they will be the defensive anchors of the Gyan's team. The faster you kill these Armored units, the sooner you'll be able to deal with their DPS carries.

Reliance on Strong DPS Carries

While the Gyan needs strong Armored units to distract the enemy team, it also needs powerful DPS units that can take full advantage of the window of opportunity the Gyan grants them. Without heavy hitters like the Sazabi and the Zeong, the Gyan's team might struggle with defeating the enemy's key units before they finish killing its Armored unit allies.

Having another Gyan face a Gyan-centered team will even the match out and turn it into a race between who can take out the enemy's tanks faster, as well as a competition between who has the better units. Each team will prioritize the opponent's tanks first, and oftentimes (though not always), whoever gets to the rest of the team first wins.

Mobile suits that can quickly kill tanks counter the Gyan's tactical skill of forcing opponents to attack its allied tanks. When on offense, try to get your units to attack these mobile suits first, as they pose the biggest threat to your team by potentially eating away at your defenses too quickly.

The Penelope and The-O are the best defensive Armored units in the game that don't mind having multiple attackers all at the same time, hence the natural synergy with the Gyan. That said, you'll run into these defensive juggernauts a lot alongside the Gyan.

Penelope is weak to multi-hit units and crits while The-O is weak to accurate mobile suits and those that can inflict Unavoidable on it. Without the right tools to beat them, these are extremely difficult to take down, so try to field in a counter or two each time you come across a Penelope/Gyan or The-O/Gyan team.
