For a very long time, the Zeta Gundam dominated Arena as one of the highest DPS units in the game, capable of tearing through teams by spamming its EX skill rapidly, over and over again. This EX skill deals 520% of its ATK and bypasses defenses while dealing another 390% ATK bypassing defenses once more if the unit is inflicted with the Unavoidable debuff. This is extremely spammable because the Zeta Gundam has 4 skills that restore or improve the restoration of its EX gauge. It also receives 89% more beam damage after it uses its EX skill, so it deals a respectable amount of damage with its weapons as well.

The Zeta Gundam is undoubtedly an offensive powerhouse, but it, like many other mobile suits, suffers from weaknesses and counters that can easily be exploited, allowing you to consistently beat the Zeta each time you encounter it.

Zeta Gundam Weaknesses

No Defense or Sustain

Unlike the Yellow Sazabi, the Zeta Gundam sadly cannot defend itself that well, nor can it heal back the damage it receives on its own. This makes it much easier to take it down when compared to units with sustain like the Yellow Sazabi, Dag Doll, and Banshee (NT-D). It's still quite hard to take down in the sense that it definitely has the damage output to kill whatever you place in front of it, but you can always strategize accordingly and try to take it out by placing a tank in front of it and placing a flanking Purple-type to attack it from a different column while it's distracted.

Remember that the Zeta Gundam is a powerful tank buster since its EX skill bypasses defenses, so make sure your flanker is strong enough to take advantage of your formation.

Has A Very Hard Counter

Plenty of mobile suits have counters, but few have hard counters that can absolutely ruin the other unit's chances of succeeding. The Zeta Gundam, while extremely strong, suffers from this issue given that the Blue Destiny Unit-1 exists, whose kit is meant to give Newtype Machine units like the Zeta Gundam a hard time.

The BD-1 serves as a hard counter to all Newtype Machines. It locks in on Newtype Machines when the battle begins, only attacking these priority targets despite being protected by Armored units or other frontliners. It'll make quick work of them since it deals 99% more proximity damage to Newtypes and is 25% more accurate against them. Finally, its EX skill hits for 502% of its ATK but hits for another 1004% if its target falls under this unit category. This EX skill can be fired off rather quickly given its 50% EX gauge granted at the start of combat and how it increases its EX gauge recovery by 24% for each fallen ally.

［M0214］ Zaku I with Big Gun (Thunderbolt)

The Big Gun Zaku works well against the Zeta Gundam because it can hit it from very far away while also possibly executing it if it's the lowest HP unit when it casts its EX skill. Because the Zeta Gundam does not heal, nor does it have any defensive skills, any substantial damage it takes will often be permanent. Provided that the Zeta's preoccupied with something else, the BGZ can safely deal big damage to it. However, do note that once the Zeta manages to close in on it, it's over for the BGZ.
