Pillager Locations and Spawning Mechanics

Patrol Spawn

Patrols consist of a group of Pillagers. Unlike Raids, Patrols cap to 5 Pillager spawns and do not come in waves.

Raid Spawn

Pillagers are common spawns for the first few waves during Raids, with a chance of one being the Raid captain, which drops an Ominous Banner or Illager Banner depending on the player's Minecraft Edition.

Structures

Pillager Outpost Spawn

Pillager Outpost

Aside from Raids and Patrols, Pillagers can also be found in Pillager Outposts. These can be found in Biomes wherein Villages can spawn.

However, Pillager Outposts can also spawn in Biomes where Villages cannot be found, specifically snowy, mountainous Biomes.

How to Beat Pillagers

Don't Follow Arrow Paths

Dodging Pillager Arrows
Pillagers are equipped with Crossbows, which allows them to target the player and other Village mobs from afar.

When closing in on the Pillager, make sure you are not following the path of their arrows to prevent taking any damage.

Consider Using Shields Up Close

Another way of avoiding ranged attacks of Pillagers is by equipping your character a Shield to block incoming arrows.

This is especially useful once you have gotten close to the Pillager, as dodging its arrows pointblank are much harder when done from afar.

Additionally, having full armor can drastically lessen damage taken from enemies in general. So make sure you're fully equipped before taking on a mob of Pillagers!

Aside from players, Pillagers are hostile towards Village mobs such as Villagers, Snow and Iron Golems, and occasionally, Wandering Traders.

Village Mob Exceptions

Despite being in Villages, Pillagers are not hostile towards baby Villagers and animal mobs.

Friendly Pillagers

Unlike other mobs, the Crossbows of Pillagers can break. Once disarmed, the Pillager will no longer attack any mobs and will remain passive until defeated.
