Cogfly is a Red Tool that spawns mechanical flies that independently deal damage to enemies in Hollow Knight: Silksong. See the how to get the Cogfly tool, its location, and how to use it.
List of Contents

The Cogfly can be crafted in a workbench found in the High Halls. You need one Craftmetal to make this tool.
There are many ways to obtain a Craftmetal from various locations in Pharloom, but the easiest way is to purchase one from Pebb in Moss Grotto for 60 Rosaries.

The platforming section leading up to the Cogfly requires players to use the Clawline, a grappling hook that Hornet can shoot out horizontally.
Players will need to shoot the Clawline through the ring loops in order to activate switches that unlock the path to the Cogfly.
The main function of Cogfly spawns are for dealing passive damage to enemies. This can help in boss fights as large bosses will tank all the hits from each Cogfly. At the same time, this helps in gauntlets as Hornet's Cogflies can still deal damage while players can move more carefully.
Cogflies move independently of Hornet's actions, leaving them with almost zero drawbacks. This means that players can focus on other actions, such as platforming, or using Silk Skills. Overall, the Cogfly offers so much value as a tool compared to its low cost of use.
Resting at a bench won't cause Cogflies to despawn, meaning that players can spawn four Cogflies and replenish their uses while having active summons. Players can do this before a boss fight or a gauntlet to maximize Cogfly damage.
Cogflies will only despawn once you remove it from its tool slot. You can free up more slots for red tools by either upgrading crests with Memory Lockets, as well as equipping the Architect Crest.
If player's need an extra slot for blue tools, they can spawn the Cogflies with the Pollip Pouch equipped before switching out the Pollip Pouch. Cogflies spawned this way will retain their poison infusion.

Patch 1.0.28650 fixes two bugs that caused the Cogflies to target Skullwings and them resetting their HP when you move to a different location. The latter fixes the exploit that allows players to farm Rosaries quickly but they can still be used during boss fights normally.
