The general combat in Silksong involves the hit and run tactic. This can be performed by hitting the enemy at least once and immediately moving away to reposition. Beginners can practice this tactic on mobs when starting out until they get used to the rhythm of combat.
This is the general tactic for most encounters, regardless if they are a normal enemy or a boss. Staying alive is more important than dealing damage, and practicing caution even in the earlier stages of the game can help in tackling more difficult challenges later on.
When exploring, remember to check every wall and open every switch for possible secrets. Running into walls can sometimes reveal hidden rooms that contain items, secret paths, or Rosaries, and opening switches usually remove exploration hindrances like locked gates and elevators.
If something can break, then it's probably meant to break. This usually applies to walls and vines that can open up shortcuts, helpful when revisiting the area at a later date.
Binding or healing will fully deplete your Silk. While useful, this can leave you vulnerable as you're trading health for ability use until your Silk is recharged. As the early game does not feature many uses for Silk, practice to use it only when necessary or if there's an opportunity to replenish your Silk quickly.
Note that you can still get interrupted while Binding. Experiencing an interruption mid-Bind will cancel the heal but continue to fully deplete her Silk. Ensure to find a safe spot or moment in combat where completing a Bind is guaranteed.
When dying, Hornet leaves behind a Cocoon in her location and respawns at the last bench rested on. Breaking this Cocoon will restore Hornet's Silk (as well as lost Rosaries from the previous death) to use for healing or abilities.
Instead of breaking it immediately, players can approach the Cocoon as an extra spool of Silk. This is especially useful against later boss encounters where the extra Silk can come in handy for an emergency heal or ability use.

The main currency for Silksong are Rosaries, which are lost upon death. Players can avoid this by using Rosary Strings collected in Pharloom, or paying a fee to certain vendors to secure the Rosaries to a string.
Note that strung Rosaries cannot be spent without breaking the string. This should be used when expecting long expeditions without frequent vendor visits, or when tackling unknown areas or encountering difficult platforming sections.

Acquiring the area's Map as soon as possible is a necessity when exploring new ones. Locate Shakra when entering a new area and purchase all the necessities to keep track of progress.
