Hollow Knight: Silksong

Lace Boss Guide

Add to Watchlist

Hollow Knight Silksong - Lace Boss Guide
Lace is a boss you first encounter in Deep Docks, then again at the Cradle in Hollow Knight: Silksong. See a loadout you can use to beat Lace, her attack patterns, and rewards in this guide!

Lace Recommended Loadout

Jump to a Section!
Act 1 Act 2

Act 1

Abilities Silkspear
Tools
Crests

The Silkspear is the only offensive ability you will have up to this point, but is still very effective for landing damaging the boss from a distance.Especially with how quick Lace's movements are, you would want to avoid getting too close.

For the same reason, the Straight Pin is a tool that can damage Lace from a distance without expending silk.

The Hunter Crest is the crest that you start out with, but it is still a very well-balanced crest that can handle a variety of situations, and has a quick movement speed that can help with fast bosses.

Act 2

Abilities Rune Rage
Tools
Optional
Crests

With Lace being quick to move, you would want to use Rune Rage to punish her with a difficult to dodge AoE that tracks her around the area. You can gain your Silk back quickly for another attack by using Weavelight.

Fractured Mask and Magnetite Dice provide longer survivability. Fractured Mask acts as an extra life that can tank lethal damage if you are on your last health. Magnetite Dice can shield you from damage, but this effect happens at random times.

Flintstate imbues your needle with flame and increases your damage power for a short amount of time. The Threefold Pin can also let you hit Lace from the distance and would be difficult for her to dodge given the tool's 3-pin spray.

The Witch Crest is one of the best crests in the game. It has a very fast moveset, and can regenerate Silk very quickly. It also unleashes a powerful AoE when you bind. However, if your AoE doesn't land any hits, you will not regenerate any masks.

If you do not have the Witch's Crest, the Reaper Crest's crescent slash can also be very effective during this fight. The crest's wider range makes it easy to land hits on opponents, and makes pogo-ing off them even easier.

Lace Location

Past the Locked Gate in Deep Docks After Obtaining Silk Step

Lace is a boss that you will first encounter in Deep Docks. Based on Hollow Knight Silksong's trailer, you will reencounter Lace at a different location!

Unlock Swift Step to Fight Lace

Swift Step Location

Once you are closeby Lace's boss area, you will start to hear singing coming from the locked gate to the right. To unlock the gate, you will need the Swift Step ability in order to jump dash to the platform where the lever is located.

Go back to where you met Shakra in Deep Docks. Climb to the top then enter the door to the right. Keep going right until you reach the end of the area, then climb up and hit the explosive on the ceiling to reveal a path upwards.

After heading up, you will find yourself in a greener area with spikes and platforms that go to the top. If you go right, you can unlock a bench for 30 Rosary beads. We recommend you do this before starting your ascent.

Ascend to the next area then go left. Be prepared to fight a pair of ant warriors. After they are defeated, go left then drop back down into Deep Docks. Head left then interact with the spider effigy to get the Swift Step upgrade.

After Arriving at the Cradle

Lace's second boss encounter will be during Act 2 when you reach the Cradle. You can reach the cradle by getting to the top of the Cogwork Core and taking the elevator there.

How to Beat Lace

Jump to a Section!
Act 1 Act 2

Act 1 Lace

Act 1 Lace Boss Fight Tips

Jump to Avoid Most of Lace's Attacks

Hornet Jump

Lace's standard attacks can easily avoided when you jump as soon as you see Lace channeling one of her attacks or feel that Lace will attack soon.

Attack Lace After She Attacks

Attack Lace

After Lace does one of her attacks, there will always be a delay before she moves or attack again. Jump dash to avoid her attack then hit her from behind.

Use the Straight Pin Tool for Extra Damage

If you equip the Straight Pin Tool, you can throw small needles at Lace without consuming your Silk. Use this to deal extra damage when possible.

Stay Out of Lace's Special Attack AOE

Circle Telegraph

Lace has a special leap attack that is first telegraphed by a big circle that appears in front of her. You can easily avoid Lace's special attack as long as you are not inside of the circle.

Act 2 Lace

Act 2 Lace Boss Fight Tips

Lace Uses the Same Moves from Act 1

During the first phase of Lace's fight in the Cradle, Lace will have the same moveset as when you fought her in Deep Docks. The only difference will be that her movements are slightly faster. You can still follow the same tips as above when fighting Lace.

Do Not Jump When Lace Leaps

During the second phase, Lace's normal leap attack gets upgraded. Now, when she leaps, she'll leave behind an AoE that is telegraphed by 3 consecutive circles, punishing you if you try to jump over her.

Wall Hop on the Right Pillar to Heal

You can safely heal from Lace's attacks by wall hopping on the right pillar all the way to the top of the screen and float near the center where you can heal without getting hit by her attacks.

This makes the Multibinder a great tool to equip during this fight since it heals more masks and you don't have to worry about getting hit by Lace.

Lace Attack Patterns

Jump to a Section!
Act 1 Act 2

Act 1

Double Slash

A simple double slash attack that allows Lace to cover a bit of distance in front of her.

Flurry Attack

A stationary 2-second flurry attack. Easy to avoid as long as Hornet is far away from Lace.

Dash Attack

Lace does a two-handed sword stance for a second before lunging towards the direction Lace is facing.

Normal Leap Attack

Lace leaps into the air. Then, slashes downwards, to Hornet's location.

Special Leap Attack

Lace channels this special attack for around 3 seconds before launching into the air, unleashing a combo that ends with Lace doing a ground attack. The special attack's AoE is within the circle that spawns in front of Lace as she channels the attack!

Act 2

The First Phase follows the same attack patterns as the ones listed above.

Upgraded Leap Attack

When Lace leaps into the air during Phase 2 of your encounter in the Cradle, she'll leave behind three circular AoE, before slashing down towards Hornet.

Lace Rewards

Silk Heart After Act 2 Fight

After defeating Lace in Act 2, you will receive a Silk Heart. Silk Hearts let you regenerate a small amount of Silk after expending your Silk gauge.

The witch crest sucks for this fight, you can never get close to lace without her interrupting the animation
