You unlock the ability to DigiRide when you progress through the To the Untrodden World main mission.
Once you enter the Digital World, head to the central area of Central Town to activate a cutscene. Afterward, you will unlock and receive a tutorial on how to DigiRide.
All Main Missions and Walkthrough
The biggest advantage of DigiRide is that your Digimon's walking speed is faster than your player character's speed. Since you can move faster, you can use this to explore the map more efficiently.
The movement speed varies depending on the Digimon you use. Flying Digimon are likely to have faster movement speeds while some slow Digimon may move at the same speed as the player character or even slower.
When DigiRiding, you automatically DigiAttack any enemies on the field. This eliminates the need to press the DigiAttack button to perform a preemptive strike or defeat weaker Digimon.

There are some Digimon that you cannot DigiRide. You can check if a Digimon is DigiRide compatible if they have a ride icon beside their level on the Setup screen.

You can only use DigiRide on Digimon on the Battle Members slot. You cannot ride Digimon that are placed on the Reserve Members slot and in the Box.
Some areas, such as Shinjuku and the In-Between Theatre, do not allow you to DigiRide. The option to do so is disabled and the DigiRide button does not appear on the bottom-right corner of the screen.
