There are a total of 7 Attributes available and serves as the Digimon's type. Only one Attribute is assigned to a Digimon.
You can check the Attribute and Attribute Resistance of your Digimon on the Setup screen. Open the Digivice and select Digimon. Choose Setup to check the Attribute of your available Digimon.

The three attributes: Virus, Vaccine, and Data use a combat triangle design where one type is strong against another and is given a weakness to the other. Virus is weak to Vaccine, and the latter is weak to Data.
The other Attributes such as Free, Unknown, Variable, and No Data have no resistances and weaknesses toward other Attributes. Digimon with these Attributes deal 1.0x damage.
The Attribute, No Data, is only available to In-Training I and In-Training II Digimon.

Each Digimon posseses an affinity with any of the eleven elements.
Their affinity with the elements affect their elemental weaknesses and resistances based on the symbols that appear on your Digimon's stats screen or when targetting an enemy Digimon, as shown below.

Special Skills and Attachment Skills may have an Elementary affinity if they have a symbol next to their names. You can use these to attack an enemy Digimon based on their elemental weaknesses.

The total damage computation of your Digimon is based on its attribute and elemental affinity.
You can check the damage output in percentage when you target an enemy Digimon. Arrow icons appear to indicate which Attribute and Element is weak or resistant to your Digimon's attack.
For example, if you have a Virus Digimon and have it use a Fire-elemental attack to a Vaccine Digimon that is resistant to fire, the attack will only deal 1.5x damage.
