List of Contents

The Runaway Style is a sub-category of Front Runners and can be accessed by purchasing the Runaway skill, often available as hints through an Uma's career.
They act as empowered Front Runners that strongly rush to the front from the beginning at the cost of more stamina. Being a sub-category, Front Runner skills will still work and Runaway racers will significantly benefit from positional advantage skills, such as Groundwork and Early Lead.

Silence Suzuka (Innocent Silence)
|
Silence Suzuka is currently the only runner to have access to the Runaway racing style in the Half-Anniversary Patch. This is a significantly earlier release schedule compared to its introduction in the JP server.
To unlock Runaway for Silence Suzuka, you need to win at least 6 graded races in a row and win the Tenno Sho (Autumn). Doing so will trigger the An Inspiring Streak event, which will give +7 to all stats, as well as a Hint for the Runaway skill.
In the JP server, there are five other characters that gain access to this running style through their careers. These include Daitaku Helios, Twin Turbo, Mejiro Palmer, Tap Dance City, and Katsuragi Ace.

Runaway racers are built similarly to Front Runners with Speed, Stamina, and Power still being the main priority for this style. Speed is the most important stat in the game, so having three Speed Support Cards is worth considering.
Power boosts your Umas' acceleration, allowing them to reach their top speed faster, which helps in gaining the lead early on in the race.
| Stat | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Counter Runaway's increased stamina consumption | |
| Increase speed bonus during Spot Struggle and improve chances of winning Duels | |
| Prevents Rushed |
Using the Runaway style requires significantly higher stats compared to normal Front Runners for various reasons. First off, Runaways burn significantly more stamina than any other running style, so they will need more Stamina. Runaways also suffer heavily if they get Rushed, so having high Wit will help counter it.
Finally, Guts will improve your Spot Struggle speed bonus, as well as increase your chances of winning Duels, so increasing your Guts is important. As such, if you plan to create a Runaway Umamusume, you should be prepared to increase all of their stats.
As of the Unity Cup, it will be a challenge to gain the necessary stats to meet Medium and Long courses' requirements. We recommend only using this style in Mile races for now.

Front Runner skills work with Runaway racers, as they still belong in the category. They gain the same benefits as regular Front Runners, with the added weakness of requiring more Stamina.
Early Lead and Groundwork are especially useful with the Runaway style, as the two skills are fought for in the early race. Having them guarantees that other Front Runners do not gain their effects, while your racer does on the track.
