The Reworked Guts stat will now affect the speed of your trainees during the last spurt of a race in Umamusume: Pretty Derby. Learn more about what guts does, its rework, how it affects races, and how to increase it in this guide!
Guts will receive a major rework on November 11, 2025, alongside other balance adjustments to the game's mechanics. Guts will become more important in races, mainly affecting the last spurt of the racers in a track. Furthermore, it will also affect the new contention mechanics for positioning in the race, such as Spot Struggles and Duels.

Guts will mainly affect the last spurt, now being a factor for a racer to reach her Top Speed during this part of the race.

Spot Struggle will be a new mechanic on November 11, 2025, that covers the early-to-mid race, where multiple Front Runners or Runaways are competing for the front position.
All participating runners in this contest will gain extra Speed for the entire duration based on their Guts stat. Furthermore, this will only activate for runners of the same running style, so Front Runners will not be affected by Runaways competing in a Spot Struggle and vice versa.

Dueling activates in the final straight of a race between multiple racers that are nearby and have similar speed to each other. Guts provide a buff to participating racers, giving additional Speed and Acceleration.
Racers must have enough Stamina to compete, or they will forfeit the duel and continue racing as normal.

Guts' current main function is to reduce stamina consumption during the last spurt of a race. The Last spurt is when an Umamusume uses their remaining Stamina to accelerate and try to overtake other racers.
The Guts rework is a huge change to the global version of Umamusume: Pretty Derby. In the JP version, this update was released on February 24, 2022 for their first anniversary when the third scenario, Make A New Track, was launched.
This change affects how all races work and will significantly change the meta for the game's most competitive mode, Champion's Meeting. Guts Support Cards will become more viable, especially for short races and Front Runners.

Despite being reworked, Guts is still the least priority among the five stats in the game. Speed and Power will still be your main stats for velocity and acceleration, while Stamina acts as your resource to survive the race.
Guts can now be comparable to Wit, but the latter's significance to skill activations is still more important to gain better footing in the race.
To note, Speed and Guts are your late-race stats. Speed will still be your main focus, as it acts as the base for your minimum and top speed, while Guts acts as additional speed stats with its own multipliers.
