How to Activate Shield

Press H Button While Holtzman Shield is Equipped

Press the H Button

To activate your shield, press the H button. This will automatically turn on your shield as long as you have power. Similarly, you can press H to deactivate shields.

Shields are indicated by a blue outline around your character. This is quite visible and helps when using shields in the game.

Crafting Your First Holtzman Shield

Holtzman Shield

Holtzman Shields are schematics in the Research menu that must be researched and crafted. We recommend crafting a Holtzman Shield Mk2 as soon as possible, as it will help you with exploration and combat early on.

The Holtzman Shield Mk2 can be fabricated in the General Fabricator with Iron Ingots and Particle Capacitators. Try to get this as soon as possible.

Shields can be equipped and activated to block damage from enemies. This tool is handy when in combat, as it prevents you from taking damage full-on.

Enemies Can Also Have Shields

Enemies can also have shields in Dune: Awakening. Use Disruptors to break shields and slow blade attacks with melee weapons to combat this. Poison and fire also bypass shields, so this can be used to kill shielded NPCs.

Increase Based on Power

Shield Power

Shields use power from Power Packs, as the bar can be seen below the HP gauge to indicate power at any given time. Power Packs and Shield tiers affect how much attacks can be tanked, so upgrade both when possible.

Taking damage from enemies while shielded will reduce the Power bar. Once depleted, the shield will break, and you will be staggered.

Cause High Vibration on Open Sand

Shields cause high vibrations on open sand and will instantly attract sandworms, causing them to be highly agitated. We recommend deactivating your shield while crossing the open sand to avoid attracting sandworms.
