The Roamer Encampment Region (Past) becomes accessible after completing L’arca, collecting all Yellow Fragments, and placing them in the Shrine of Mysteries.
Metal Slimes can appear here as rare bonus enemies, but they won’t show up in the overworld. Instead, they have a chance to join the enemy lineup when you initiate combat using a field strike on regular enemies.
Roamer Encampment Walkthrough Guide

Setting Battle Speed to Ultra Fast helps you burn through encounters quickly, making EXP farming far more efficient.

Critical hits are the most reliable way to defeat Metal Slimes before they flee. Crits completely ignore their extremely high defence, allowing you to take them down in a single hit.
Equipping the Hammerhood Heart boosts the wearer’s critical hit rate by 10%, making it a strong option when farming Metal Slimes.

Multi-hit and area-of-effect attacks offer a more consistent way to damage Metal Slimes, especially when multiple appear at once.

Metal Slimes never appear on their own in the overworld. They only spawn as additional enemies when you engage standard monsters in battle, so repeated encounters are necessary to trigger their appearance.
If your party is overleveled, field strikes may instantly defeat enemies before a battle even starts, preventing Metal Slimes from spawning.
Using Ruff’s Whistle lets you force encounters on demand, allowing Metal Slimes to appear without relying on overworld attacks. This makes farming much faster and removes the need to roam around aimlessly.
