You can choose to respawn at your last save, the last visited location, or retry the battle once your party dies in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined (DQ7). See what happens when your party is wiped out, and what you can do to prevent it here.

Choosing this option returns your party to your most recent manual save. You’ll keep all items and experience gained up to that point, but any progress made after the save will be lost. This is the safest choice if you want to fully reset after a tough battle.

This option places your party at the last location you visited before the battle, costing half your held gold. It’s useful if you want to continue exploring without reloading your full save, but plan accordingly since you’ll lose some money.

Resuming from an autosave allows your party to continue from a point the game automatically saved, which may be more recent than your last manual save.
Keep in mind that autosaves may occur before or after certain battles, so check your progress to avoid losing significant achievements.

You can also retry the battle immediately from the death screen, but this costs half your held gold. This is ideal if you want to attempt the fight again without traveling, but you’ll need to consider the monetary penalty.

Tactics are the auto-battle commands. While convenient, leaving them on during difficult encounters can lead to poor decision-making by AI-controlled characters.
Turn off Tactics to manually control your party and respond to enemy actions more effectively.

Pay attention to enemy actions since the game will often indicate when an enemy is charging a powerful attack. Use the Defend command during these turns to reduce damage and protect your party from lethal hits.

Once worked up, you will be able to choose if you want your character to Let Loose, and perform a special ability. These abilities vary depending on your character’s vocation. They can deal massive damage, buff allies, or heal, but should be used strategically.
Avoid picking Let Loose if you don’t have enough MP or if the timing won’t maximize their benefit.

Always make sure your party has the best available weapons, armor, and accessories before entering challenging battles. Proper equipment can dramatically reduce damage taken and improve survivability.
Monitor your party’s health closely and heal before it’s critical. Even if HP seems high, anticipate upcoming enemy attacks and heal as necessary to avoid sudden deaths.

If a fight looks unwinnable, retreating can save your party. Standard escape has a chance to fail, but using a Chimaera Wing guarantees escape, though it cannot be used in boss fights. Choosing to retreat early can prevent losing gold and experience.
