Choose the Equipment option from the Tactics menu to change gear mid-battle in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined (DQ7). Learn how to swap equipment during combat and find out when is the best time to do so here!

How to Change Equipment Mid-Battle

Go to the Tactics Menu in Battle

Tactics Button

While in combat, press the Tactics button to open the battle menu. Make sure the character who will change equipment is the one currently accessing the menu.

Select Equipment

Equipment

Choose the Equipment option to open a simplified equipment screen. From here, you can swap weapons, armor, and accessories for the selected character without leaving the battle.

Reacting to Enemy Mechanics

Charm

Some enemies rely heavily on status ailments, elemental attacks, or specific damage types. Swapping to defensive or resistance-based gear mid-battle can significantly reduce incoming damage or prevent debilitating effects.

Fighting Specific Enemy Types

Spell

Some weapons deal increased damage to specific enemies, such as undead or dragon-type foes. Switching to these weapons mid-battle can speed up fights without wasting MP.

If a fight suddenly shifts or an enemy starts hitting harder than expected, changing equipment can be a safer option than brute-forcing the encounter with your current loadout.
