You can start The Forty Thieves Quest after completing the Branching Out quest. Once you return to the Harbiyah Bureau and after speaking to Roshan, look for a letter on a table and read it to start the the quest.
A Dance with Thieves Walkthrough |
---|
Head to the Harbiyah Bureau and pick up the letter on the table to the right of Abu Jafar to start the quest.
Head to the South City Gates and look for Ali Baba's Daughter, who is talking to one of the merchants to start a short cutscene.
After the cutscene, choose I'm ready to continue the quest.
Follow Murjana on horesback and she'll explain more about her father, Ali Baba's current predicament and how he's had dealings with the legendary Forty Thieves.
Dismount once you reach the Forty Thieves Hideout and follow Murjana to the spot overlooking the entrance.
You'll need to eliminate the thieves patrolling the entrance of the hideout. We recommend assassinating the armored thief patrolling near the overlook first as they are difficult to engage in combat and can alert the other thieves.
Once all thieves are dead, a cutscene will start where Basim and Murjana discover Ali Baba's corpse. Murjana will then tell Basim to meet her in Ali Baba's Estate back in Baghdad.
Secrets, Spoken and Unspoken |
---|
Make your way to Ali Baba's Estate in the Karkh district of Baghdad and meet with Murjana who is holding a funeral for her father.
A cutscene will play where one of the thieves will mark Ali Baba's house, prompting Basim to formulate a plan where they should mark empty houses to lure out the thieves.
Head slightly south from Ali Baba's Estate and use Eagle Vision to highlight the houses that you'll need to apply the Thieves' Mark. There are a total of 7 doors that you can apply the mark, though you'll only need to mark 4 doors.
We recommend choosing doors that are far from each other so you have more room to sneak around the thieves when they appear.
Once you're done applying the marks, head back to Ali Baba's Estate and follow the quest marker to a pole where you'll wait in ambush.
A short cutscene will play where a group of thieves will enter the plaza area looking for the marks.
The estate and nearby plaza has many flower beds that you can hide in and assassinate each thief quickly. We recommend taking out thieves stealthily as there are many of them and can easily overwhelm Basim.
Once all thieves are dead, head back to Ali Baba's Estate where Murjana is being attacked by three thieves.
Kill the attackers then speak to Murjana for a cutscene where she explains that the King of Thieves has ordered her execution. She'll give you their passcode, Iftah ya simsim (Open Sesame) to grant access to their hideout.
Meet the King |
---|
Head back to the Thieves Hideout located in the Wilderness south of Baghdad.
As you make your way through the wilderness, keep a look out for thieves who may ambush you on the road. You can flee from them or kill them for loot.
Dismount near the Thieves Hideout and use Enkidu to scan the area. You'll need to eliminate the Hideout Guards who are guarding the entrance.
Although you can dispatch the guards however you want, we recommend assassinating them especially the roaming armored thief to avoid alerting the other guards and getting swarmed.
Eagle Controls - How to Use Enkidu
Once all guards are killed, approach the large wooden doors and interact with them for a short cutscene where Basim will say the passcode Iftah ya simsim.
Make your way inside the cave and search for the King of Thieves.
Dispatch the two thieves near the entrance and follow the path until you reach a metal gate. Head inside and you'll see the King of Thieves distracted, berating one of the thieves for letting Murjana live.
Sneak towards the right side of the upper area, quietly assassinating any guards you'll encounter and find a suitable position where you can air assassinate the King of Thieves.
After successfully killing the King of Thieves, you'll need to kill the remaining thieves within the hideout.
Most thieves may not be aware that you have just assassinated their leader and you can sneak up and assassinate them without engaging them in a fight.
Once all thieves are taken care of, a short cutscene will play with Murjana discovering that the King of Thieves' legendary sword is actually quite ordinary and was simply using tricks and illusions to strike fear into his enemies.
Murjana will say her goodbyes as she prepares to leave for Samarkand but not before rewarding Basim with the King of Thieves Costume as payment for helping her.
Completing the Forty Thieves rewards you the King of Thieves Costume. Although it's only a cosmetic item, it's one of the few costumes that have no hood.
You can loot The King of Thieves' treasure hoard in the Thieves Hideout, which includes two treasure chests that contain leather, steel ingots, and components for crafting.
