You can defeat it by hitting it with a shield attack to stun it and then slash at it several times.

Ampiluses are aggressive enemies seen in Lanayru Desert. Once alerted, they will hide inside its electric shell and charge at you.

Stun Ampilus by baiting it to a wall

Ampilus - Bait to a wall
When Link approaches an Ampilus, it rolls into its electric shell and charges at you with with great speed. Counter this by baiting its course and crashing it to a wall.

Stun Ampilus by going to a higher platform

Ampilus - Bait to a high platform
Similarly, you can stun an Ampilus by climbing up an elevated platform. It will not stop charging until it crashes into a wall, or stops after a certain amount of time.

Bombard Ampilus with Beetle Bombs

Ampilus - beetle bomb
After you get the Hook Beetle, hook bombs from a distance then aim it to the Ampilus. The explosion will immediately defeat them.
