Elma Build (Full Metal Jaguar)

Arts
(Left)
Thirsty Edge Icon Primer Icon Electric Surge Icon Shadowstrike Icon
Arts
(Right)
Hundred Shells Icon Sliding Slinger Icon Side Slash Icon Ghost Factory Icon
Skills
Background Noise Icon Master Edge Icon Mortal Enemy Icon Crisis Catalyst Icon

Elma's build as a Full Metal Jaguar relies heavily on repositioning to maximize the effectiveness of her arts and skills. Her signature art, Ghost Factory, is included to provide an evasion buff through Decoy for the entire party.

She's a bit of a hit-or-miss party member when not controlled, as she might fail to position herself properly and lose out on damage boosts.

Elma Best Build

H.B. Build (Shield Trooper+)

Arts
(Left)
Last Stand Icon Gunforce Icon Furious Blast Icon Power Dive Icon
Arts
(Right)
Trash Talk Icon Shield Wall Icon Decoy Round Icon Iron Prison Icon
Skills
Steel Flesh Icon Combat Presence Icon Shield Screen Icon Trauma Tension Icon

The Shield Trooper arts and skills in this build allow H.B. to generate TP for his allies while also tanking damage for his team. His taunts grant him TP, enabling him to use other arts that require it.

H.B. Best Build

Irina Builds (Psycorruptor+)

Full Support
Psycorruptor
Arts
(Left)
Last Stand Icon Medic Free Icon Flash Grenade Icon Quick Cannon Icon
Arts
(Right)
Repair Icon Absorber Skin Icon Energy Source Icon Smooth Recovery Icon
Skills
Inner Search Icon Healing Touch Icon High Tension Icon King
Arts
(Left)
Servant Sacrifice Icon Brainjack Icon Full Specs Icon Energy Source Icon
Arts
(Right)
Screamer Icon Assault Hammer Icon Medic Free Icon Last Stand Icon
Skills
Inner Search Icon High Tension Icon King King

Irina can be built as a full support, with most of her arts focused on buffs and healing for the whole team, as well as providing a barrier to absorb damage. She can also regenerate TP for the entire team through Last Stand, making her a great unit to have until late game with this build.

Her Psycorruptor build allows her to fully utilize her crowd control arts, putting enemies to sleep or even straight up controlling them and turning them into allies. Unfortunately, endgame enemies, especially Tyrants, are capable of negating crowd control effects, making her less effective with this build.

Irina Best Builds

Lin Build (Shield Trooper)

Arts
(Left)
Trash Talk Icon Drum Roll Icon Wild Smash Icon Wild Down Icon
Arts
(Right)
Reality Rift Icon Supershield Icon Thermal Payload Icon Cool Off Icon
Skills
Shield Screen Icon Dirty Fighter Icon Stand Strong Icon

This build for Lin focuses on her ability to topple enemies, causing them to fall and disabling their ability to attack. It also gives the team 100% accuracy on that target, ensuring that their attacks don't miss.

She can also deal damage and tank hits using her taunt and melee buff arts as a Shield Trooper!

Lin Best Build

Lao Build (Partisan Eagle)

Arts
(Left)
Arcing Horn Icon Balance Breaker Icon Trident Buster Icon Overwhelm Icon
Arts
(Right)
Shrapnel Icon Afterburner Icon Eagle Eye Icon Ghost Sniper Icon
Skills
Knock Conductive Strike Icon TP Overdrive Icon

This build focuses on maximizing his damage output paired with the Shock effect. Lao has a very flexible set of arts for both melee and ranged attacks but he is best put into use as a Ranged DPS, being a Partisan Eagle class.

Note: Lao loses viability in the game due to events in Chapter 9 and may be difficult to build in the late game.

Lao Best Builds

L Build (Shield Trooper+)

Arts
(Left)
Reality Rift Icon Mindstorm Icon Trash Talk Icon Wild Down Icon
Arts
(Right)
Wild Smash Icon Shield Wall Icon Lightning Cloak Icon Astral Protection Icon
Skills
Steel Flesh Icon Shield Screen Icon Stand Strong Icon

This build for L as a Shield Trooper maximizes his capabilities as a pure tank in your party with defensive arts and skills. This won't contribute much damage to the team, but if you're looking for something close to a pure tank, then this build is right for you!

L Best Build

Alexa Build (Partisan Eagle+)

Arts
(Left)
Raijin Icon Arcing Horn Icon Hair Trigger Icon Trident Buster Icon
Arts
(Right)
Furious Blast Icon Assault Hammer Icon Overwhelm Icon Maximum Voltage Icon
Skills
Fortified Flesh Icon Electric Boost Icon Synchrony Icon

Alexa is great at dealing electric-type damage to enemies due to her Partisan Eagle arts and skills revolving around the electric attribute. Her access to Synchrony also makes her a good party member to have in a Skell, since this skill boosts its stats, making it more effective in combat.

Alexa Best Build

Yelv Build (Blast Fencer+)

Arts
(Left)
Astrolibrium Icon Astral Heal Icon Astral Purge Icon Starfall Rondo Icon
Arts
(Right)
Starfall Blade Icon Starfall Blossom Icon Galactic Cataclysm Icon Subterfuge Icon
Skills
Beam Boost Icon Supreme Sword Icon Synchrony Icon

Yelv as a Blast Fencer specializes in Melee-based Beam damage, and most of his Skills and Arts will cater towards that direction. He also has the advantage of being buffed while in a Skell due to his access to Synchrony.

Yelv Best Build

Boze Build (Partisan Eagle)

Arts
(Left)
Arcing Horn Icon Sidewinder Icon Vortex Icon Overwhelm Icon
Arts
(Right)
Trident Buster Icon Slayonet Icon Hair Trigger Icon Raijin Icon
Skills
Electric Boost Icon Knock Conductive Strike Icon

Boze specializes in electric damage as a Partisan Eagle class, much like Alexa, and in inflicting Shock on enemies. He deals increased damage to shocked enemies, so his arts and skills revolve around those mechanics. However, his damage potential is somewhat reliant on the chance of inflicting Shock.

Boze Best Build

Hope Build (Psycorruptor+)

Arts
(Left)
Energy Source Icon Absorber Skin Icon Repair Icon Black Butterfly Icon
Arts
(Right)
Shooting Star Icon Stellar Ray Icon Tacit Censure Icon Astral Protection Icon
Skills
TP Overdrive Icon Inner Search Icon Knight

Hope is a Support-oriented character, being a Psycorruptor class, having similar capabilities to Irina. Her arts therefore focuses more on healing and providing boosts to the team and this is also reflected on her Skills. She has a unique Art in the form of Astral Protection, boosting the party's resistance for all damage attributes.

Hope Best Build

Murderess Build (Winged Viper+)

Arts
(Left)
Hundred Shells Icon Killing Machine Icon Seventh Edge Icon Side Slash Icon
Arts
(Right)
Back Slash Icon Electric Surge Icon Jetstream Icon Astral Protection Icon
Skills
Hellhound Icon High Tension Icon Aura Assault Icon

Murderess has similar capabiltiies to Elma, when it comes to her role as a melee-oriented fighter, as she is under the Winged Viper class, but has Astral Protection to allow her to sustain hits better than her peers. This build will focus around her melee capabilites and her Arts and Skills selected here reflect that direction.

Murderess Best Build

Doug Build (Blast Fencer+)

Arts
(Left)
Galactic Cataclysm Icon Starlight Duster Icon Geolibrium Icon Starfall Rondo Icon
Arts
(Right)
Starfall Blade Icon Myopic Screen Icon Gravity Blast Icon Pathogen Blast Icon
Skills
Inner Search Icon Beam Boost Icon Aura Assault Icon Supreme Sword Icon

Doug is a very "jack-of-all-trades" character that is meant to be used as a debuff support with a mix of tanking and damage capabilities. This build therefore reflects his strengths with melee damage and causing effects against opposition while also keeping himself alive during combat as a Blast Fencer class.

Doug Best Build

Frye Build (Samurai Gunner+)

Arts
(Left)
Burning Slash Icon Tornado Blade Icon Cool Off Icon Defensive Stance Icon
Arts
(Right)
Bullet Twister Icon Bullet Storm Icon Missile Volley Icon Hellfire Icon
Skills
Iron Knuckle Icon Trauma Tension Icon Machine Gunner Icon

Frye specializes in fighting multiple enemies at once with his Samurai Gunner kit. His Machine Gunner skill enhances this playstyle by increasing his damage against multiple enemies. He also has two arts that lower an enemy's resistance to Thermal damage for team compositions with specializing in thermal damage.

Frye Best Build

Neilnail Build (Full Metal Jaguar+)

Arts
(Left)
Hundred Shells Icon Shadowrunner Icon Blood Sacrifice Icon Side Slash Icon
Arts
(Right)
Electric Surge Icon Conduction Rise Icon Jetstream Icon Astral Protection Icon
Skills
Ether Boost Icon Knight Aura Assault Icon Supreme Sword Icon

Neilnail is a very capable character in the Definitive Edition of the game. Her versatile kit allows her to deal melee damage, inflict status effects and immediately charge Overdrive and this build reflects her capabilities as a Full Metal Jaguar the best.

Neilnail Best Build

Liesel Build (Partisan Eagle+)

Arts
(Left)
Spiral Horn Icon Arcing Horn Icon Effect Charge Icon Trident Buster Icon
Arts
(Right)
Primer Icon Early Bird Icon Violent Streak Icon Ghostwalker Icon
Skills
Trigger Happy Icon Electric Boost Icon Conductive Strike Icon

Liesel can maximize electric damage through her Partisan Eagle arts and skills. She can also boost her crits, enabling her to deal massive amounts of damage. Liesel also has a free Skell upon recruitment.

Liesel Best Build

Gwin Build (Samurai Gunner)

Arts
(Left)
Tornado Blade Icon Medic Free Icon Flash Grenade Icon Takedown Shot Icon
Arts
(Right)
Furious Blast Icon Grenade Blitz Icon Power Dive Icon Gunforce Icon
Skills
Healing Aura Icon Theroid Slayer Icon Conflagrant Edge Icon

Gwin is a Samurai Gunner which focuses more on Ranged offensive combat due to his multiple Ranged Arts. Despite this, his Skills are more melee-oriented, which creates a disconnect with his overall kit's purpose.

He is best used as a starting attacker in early-game and can be replaced by Elma, Murderess or Neilnail as early as mid-game.

Gwin Best Build

Phog Build (Winged Viper)

Arts
(Left)
Shadowrunner Icon Hundred Shells Icon Electric Surge Icon Back Slash Icon
Arts
(Right)
Side Slash Icon Sliding Slinger Icon Sky High Icon Primer Icon
Skills
Background Noise Icon Master Edge Icon Phantom Counter Icon

Phog is a Winged Viper that deals damage to targets using mostly Melee Arts and some Ranged Arts. He however suffers from being basically outpurposed by characters such as Nagi, Elma, Murderess Alexa, Neilnail and Liesel.

This build will maximize his overall combat efficiency to allow him to stay relevant at least until mid-game where replacing him with the abovementioned characters is a better team investment.

Phog Best Build

Nagi Build (Duelist+)

Arts
(Left)
Blossom Dance Icon True Stream Edge Icon Rising Blade Icon Magnum Edge Icon
Arts
(Right)
Enhanced Stand Icon Missile Volley Icon Burning Slash Icon Incendiary Edge Icon
Skills
Steel Flesh Icon Mighty Muscle Icon Yamato Spirit Icon Fortified Flesh Icon Grand Procession Icon

Nagi is one of the best damage dealers for your party until the endgame, as he can deal massive amounts of both physical and thermal damage through his arts as a Duelist class. He is also quite durable due to two of his skills, Steel Flesh and Fortified Flesh, which helps keep him alive in fights.

His arts can inflict debuffs that reduce an enemy's resistance to physical and thermal damage. These debuffs synergize with his other skills, allowing them to deal additional damage through special effects and cooldown bonuses.

Nagi Best Build

Celica Build (Psycorruptor+)

Arts
(Left)
Energy Source Icon Black Butterfly Icon Black Bane Icon Zero Zero Icon
Arts
(Right)
Violent Streak Icon Primer Icon Ghostwalker Icon Executioner Icon
Skills
Mindscape Icon Red Zone Icon Inner Search Icon

Celica's optimal build centers around setting her up for the use of Executioner and keeping up Overdrive. This is easily facilitated with Celica's Arts as a Psycorruptor such as Primer, Ghostwalker and Zero Zero.

Celica sacrifices her support capabilities in this build, but her specialized self-sustaining damage capabilities make her quite the effective character all the way to endgame.

Celica Best Build

Ga Jiarg Build (Galactic Knight+)

Arts
(Left)
Sky Sunder Icon Astrolibrium Icon Astral Heal Icon Starfall Blossom Icon
Arts
(Right)
Starfall Rondo Icon Gravity Blast Icon Gravity Cloak Icon Bahamut Wave Icon
Skills
Beam Boost Icon Tactical Analyst Icon Aura Assault Icon Supreme Sword Icon

Ga Jiarg takes advantage of his Galactic Knight class by being a multipurpose unit, able to spread debuffs to targets with Bahamut Wave while also dealing significant beam-based melee damage to targets with his signature TP Art, Sky Sunder and his other Beam Arts.

Due to this flexibility and easier unlock requirements for an endgame character in the Definitive Edition, he can potentially replace Mia for endgame team setups.

Ga Jiarg Best Build

Mia Build (Psycorruptor+)

Arts
(Left)
Full Specs Icon Gravity Cloak Icon Subterfuge Icon Gravity Blast Icon
Arts
(Right)
Beam Barrage Icon Myopic Screen Icon Clarity Ray Icon Beam Bomber Icon
Skills
Inner Search Icon Resistant Flesh Icon Tactical Analyst Icon

Mia is a very flexible late-game powerhouse capable of supporting the party with buffs and debuffs while also dealing significant damage against targets with minimal TP usage.

Her signature Art, Clarity Ray provides a powerful debuffing option and Ether Resistance boost for the entire party while Beam Bomber can deal significant Ether damage.

Do note that Mia is one of the harder to unlock characters in-game and alternatives such as Doug or Ga Jiarg can be used in place of her.

Mia Best Build

Al Best Build (Duelist+)

Arts
(Left)
Hawkeye Icon Tornado Blade Icon Offensive Stance Icon Hercules Blow Icon
Arts
(Right)
Eagle Eye Icon Sidewinder Icon Intercept Icon Howling Soul Icon
Skills
Steel Flesh Icon Mighty Muscle Icon Grand Procession Icon

Al is the best DPS in the game, but the downside is that he is only recruitable after the game's main story. Al can easily become incapacitated in battle due to him lacking self-sustaining arts, but he's capable of dealing very high damage with Hercules Blow, especially at low HP.

Al can provide a party-wide support from Howling Soul that increases allies' melee damage, ranged damage, potential, and also revives a random ally.

Al Best Build

Cross Best Build (Drifter)

Arts
(Left)
True Stream Edge Icon Offensive Stance Icon Combat Limbo Icon Tornado Blade Icon
Arts
(Right)
Ghostwalker Icon Primer Icon Magnum Edge Icon Hercules Blow Icon
Skills
Mighty Muscle Icon Dismantler Icon CQC Master Icon Aura Assault Icon Supreme Sword Icon

Cross's DPS build is centered around Hercules Blow as the main damage art. This setup maximizes the damage output from all the skills, as well as boosts to melee damage and crits from arts like Offensive Stance and Primer. This build does not have any sulf-sustaining arts except for Ghostwalker for evasion, since Offensive Stance increases your damage taken, making you a lot more vulnerable.

The equipped skils are possible due to the Drifter class' five skill slots. The skills are unlocked through different classes, meaning that you'll have to switch between different classes to properly build Cross.

Cross Best Build

Best Class Builds

Sniper Build

Arts
(Left)
Ghost Sniper Icon Intercept Icon Hair Trigger Icon Hawkeye Icon
Arts
(Right)
Shrapnel Icon Sidewinder Icon First Down Icon Afterburner Icon
Skills
Steady Hand Icon Boosted Bullets Icon Combo Gunner Icon Buff Heal Icon Secondary Accelerator Icon

This sniper build focuses on dealing crit damage to get those big numbers! It can also regenerate HP pretty good with the use of Overdrive partnered with skills such as Buff Heal and Secondary Accelerator.
