Combat Difficulty Is Not Adjustable

Xenoblade Chronicles X does not have adjustable combat difficulty.

There is currently no way to lower or raise the difficulty of in-game combat, and all fights in the game operate at a fixed difficulty setting.

How to Lower Difficulty

Fall in Boss Fights Thrice

If you are defeated three times in a single boss fight or mission combat encounter, the game will ask if you wish to retry the encounter in easy mode.

Accepting this option allows you to restart the encounter at a lower difficulty. However, the game will return to default difficulty for other encounters, and you will need to fail again to trigger the prompt.

Level Up

You can also lower the difficulty of combat in Xenoblade Chronicles X by leveling up past the suggested level of a mission.

Going into a mission with a party that is 5-10 levels higher than the recommended level can significantly reduce the difficulty of combat during the mission.
