You can create and customize your character at the beginning of the game in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Learn how to change your character's appearance, all customization options, and learn if you can change your appearance later in the game!

The first screen will ask you to pick your character's gender. Choose between Male or Female.
This will affect your avatar's body model and customization options like hairstyles and voices.
It is purely cosmetic and has no gameplay differences aside from how you'll be referred to in-game, so pick what fits your vision.

Next, you must pick a base face. This will determine the protagonist's overall facial structure.

Adjust the silder to change your character's overall size.
Moving it the left will make the protagonist's smaller. Moving it to the right will make their body bigger.

Select your character’s skin tone from a range of natural or stylized shades. You can also add other facial features like scars, moles, and freckles.

Choose a hairstyle and hair color for your character. You can combine different colors for your roots and tips to create a unique hairstyle.

Customize the protagonist's pupils and its color. You can mix and match for a natural or otherworldly appearance.

Add face paint, lip color, or blush to further beautify your avatar's face.

Pick your character’s voice from several preset options. The list also displays who the voice actor for each one!

After creating your character's appearance, a brief cutscene will happen. Then, you will be prompted to enter a name for your avatar.
There is no way to rename your character after deciding so choose wisely.
What is the Protagonist's Canon Name?
After you finished customizing your character, you have to wait until Chapter 5 to to change it again. You must complete the Yardley’s Scheme mission.
By unlocking Yardley’s Hideaway from the mission, you can change your character’s gender, hairstyle, body type, and more whenever you like.
