Quickly change targets in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition by pressing R. Find out how to change target enemies and appendages by reading below!
You can cycle through new enemy targets by pressing R. To change targets, the enemy you want to attack must be within the camera's frame.
You will instantly target the leftmost enemy you can see. If you press R again, it will move to the next available enemy, even if you are out of range to hit it.
If you have equipped your weapon and the enemy is within its attack range, you will autoattack the newly targeted enemy.
Another way to change targets is to stop targeting first. Then, you can manually select who you want to fight.
Press B to deselect an enemy. Then, press R facing the direction of your new target.
Deselecting an enemy will not end a battle. Hostile enemies will still follow you, even if you are not targeting them.
To access the Withdraw option, press Start to open the Battle Commands tab then use the D-Pad to select the rightmost option. After 15 seconds, you will be teleported to the nearest fast travel location.
After you have already targeted an enemy with R, hold R again and press A or Y to cycle between its appendages. These are different areas you can target an enemy at.
Some appendages take more damage than others. So always monitor your damage because an apppendage might have a higher defense.
Some appendages have another HP bar that also depletes as you attack it. Once it is empty, it will leave an enemy knocked back for a while or even disable one of its Arts.
Additionally, destroying an appendage can increase the drops you can get from enemies
You can target a certain appendage before you attack an enemy to guarantee a drop or deal massive damage to it.
