Skells are unlocked by completing the mission The Skell License in Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. Learn how to get Skells and when you will get them.

| The Skell License | Chapter 6 (Clear) | Pass exams from each division to earn your Skell license. |
Skells are unlocked by completing the Skell License Mission, which in turn is unlocked after completing Chapter 6.
While not mandatory to continue the main story, it is recommended to immediately get Skells as soon as the Skell Mission License becomes available. Having Skells for your party will make battles and traversals easier.
