Equip the Makeshift Gauze Eyepatch for the head armor due to its Appendage Crusher augment. You can add a Treasure Sensor augment to increase item drop rates after defeating enemies, which is helpful when farming mob drops for stronger equipment.
Reginal Armwear L and Reginal Armwear R for their Melee Accuracy Up augments. They also offer the highest defense available in the shop for the left and right arm slots.
For the torso, use the Reginal Vest, then Reginal Boots for the Legs since both has a Melee Attack Boost augment. While the Reginal Footwear offer better defense, the Reginal Boots have three upgrade slots instead of two, allowing you enhance the Melee Attack Boost augment further and maximize its effect.

Cross' main arts and skills will revolve around setting up Hercules Blow for high damage. The battle can start off with activating Ghostwalker to grant evasion, Offensive Stance for the boosted melee damage, Primer to increase crit damage, Magnum Edge to decrease physical resistance, and finishing it off with Hercules Blow to deal massive damage.
Tornado Blade and True Stream Edge are included for TP gain if you're lacking TP for Offensive Stance, then Combat Limbo to extend Offensive Stance's aura and Ghostwalker's effects.
Use Blossom Dance as an Alternative
You can use Blossom Dance if you don't have Hercules Blow yet but it requires TP. This is where Tornado Blade and True Stream Edge comes into play, as they are included in the arts palette for TP Gain mainly for Offensive Stance, but can be used to gain TP for Blossom Dance as well.
Focus on Melee Bonuses for Skills
The skills include Mighty Muscle to further boost melee attacks, Dismantler to deal more appendage damage, CQC Master to increase crit chance during melee combos, Aura Assault to boost melee damage while an aura like Offensive Stance is active, then finally Supreme Sword for another melee damage boost.
You'll have to switch classes back to the Drifter class in order to have five skill slots. The skills are also unlocked across three different classes: Striker, Samurai Gunner, and Blast Fencer.
