Multiplayer Guide: How to Do Online Play

Steps on How to Trade Online
Complete Chapter 3 in Story Mode. Have a Nintendo Switch Online Membership. Make Sure You're Connected to the Internet. Go to the BLADE Barracks' Network Console. Choose Between Randoms or Friends. You Can Now Play as a Squad.

Unlocked After Chapter 3 in Story Mode

Online multiplayer will only be available after beating Chapter 3 in Story Mode. Once unlocked, whenever players log in from then on, they will be asked to join a squad.

Make Sure You're Connected to the Internet

Before you can start connecting to other players, you need to make sure that you're connected to the internet. You can head back to the home screen on your Nintendo Switch to check. Make sure that the Wi-Fi symbol has at least two levels filled to have a smooth co-op experience.

Head to the BLADE Barracks' Network Console

Once connected, head to New Los Angeles and into the Barracks. Head to the Network Console to start connecting to other players.

Choose Between Randoms or Friends

Play with Friends

When choosing Play with Friends, the people you will be playing with can be limited to certain players using passwords! This is safe if you want to play with specific friends and don't want to play with people who might ruin your gameplay experience.

Private Squad Multiplayer Message Board

Quick Assignment

Aside from Play with Friends, you can also do Quick Assignments with other players. With this feature, you can play with strangers which range between differing levels.

Use this type of co-op with caution as you may connect with players that can spoil your gameplay like players that can one-shot any boss.

You Can Now Play as a Squad

After getting your group together, you can now play as a squad and complete missions, explore Mira, or complete Squad Tasks.

• Lifehold Squads
• Conquest Squads
• Friends' Squads

There are three (3) types of squads players can choose from that all give a unique feel to the game.

Lifehold Squads

Lifehold squads are single-player-focused squads and are for those who want an immersive single-player experience.

Lifehold squads will just be focusing on doing their own thing and won't be contributing much to squad tasks.

Conquest Squads

Conquest squads are multiplayer-focused squads and are for those who want to delve into the multiplayer aspect of the game.

Unlike lifehold squads, conquest squads will be focusing more on doing squad tasks and unlocking more squad missions.

Friends' Squads

Friends' squads are friend-focused squads and are for those who want to play with friends.

Friends' squads are the same as conquest squads but comes with the benefit and enjoyment of playing with friends, allowing for better communicaton and cooperation.

Is It Better to Play Online Or Offline?

Online Play is Completely Optional

You can completely finish Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition in offline mode and you don't need to co-op to fully explore Mira. You won't miss out on any significant content if you choose to not connect online.

Online Play Makes Grinding Easier

The overall experience does become easier if you choose do co-op online, especially when searching for rare items or defeating tougher enemies. If you want to have a strong build and require certain materials, having a few friends can certainly speed-up the process.
