Lao is a very strong carry character in the early parts of the game and as a DPS, he would best be fitted with Arcing Horn, Balance Breaker, Trident Buster and Overwhelm.

Some of his best arts focus on taking advantage of his Ghost Sniper and Afterburner arts that can be paired with Overdrive. Use Eagle Eye to boost Lao's ranged stats and keep Overdrive up and Shrapnel can be used for additional appendage-based damage.

Lao has some of the best skills to synergize with his arts and is spoiled for choice, the main build featured here will focus more on Lao's application of Shock effect while improving his ranged attacks even more.

Knock 'n' Shock allows targets to be inflicted with Shock, paired with Conductive Strike and TP Overdrive will allow Lao to exploit his maximum damage. This set can be replaced however, with his other skills such as Kill Shot and Long Shot for more general DPS.

Best Role During Combat

Early to Mid-Game Powerhouse

Lao is a very effective Sniper DPS with a surprisingly rather solid kit that, if used properly will allow some easy and massive damage in the early to mid-game. Lao however is stifled even in the Definitive Edition of the game as he suffers from being unplayable after Chapter 9.

Due to this, Lao will eventually fall off by endgame and he is the only playable character to suffer this type of conditional weakness.
