Gold City (Authentic / 1928) Unique Skill

KEEP IT REAL. Icon KEEP IT REAL. Moderately increase acceleration steadily with a wink when starting to make a move from midpack in the second half of the race.

Gold City (Authentic / 1928)'s acceleration unique skill that activates when the following conditions are met:

  • User is in the second half of the race.
  • Is in the 40-70% positions of the race, which is 4-6th in a 9-gate (CM) or 5-8th in a 12-gate (TT).
  • The user can catch up to overtake 1 racer.

This skill is strong, but will be a gamble to use consistently since there's a lot of room for error where it can activate too early to be of any use or can activate too late. On top of that, the catch-up overtake condition can be unpredictable. Let's Pump Some Iron, by comparison, will at least guarantee its activation at an optimal spot even if you meet its strict positional condition.

As an accel skill, it must land near or at the start of the late-race to be optimal.

Is Gold City (Authentic / 1928) Worth It?

Viable Mile Late Surger

Gold City is a Late Surger who is most suitable to run Mile races due to her growth rate and aptitudes, despite looking like she can be trained for Medium and Long. She faces the difficulty of having to take career races contrary to her natural aptitude in recent scenarios, but is much better to train in an environment where she is free to take on any race without restriction (such as MANT).

Despite the unpredictable nature of her unique skill, she has a promising kit. She already comes with On Your Left! which is one of the best skills for Late Surgers. She also has Keen Eye which is a reliable split recovery/debuff skill.

Gold City's an okay Late Surger addition to your roster of Mile Teams, whether it be in TT or CM, should you be able to obtain her. She can also shine more in the MANT environment where she will be unrestrained from her career of Medium and Long races.

Gold City (Authentic / 1928) Career Training Tips

Training Tips

Run Her As a Mile Late Surger

Gold City should primarily run as a Late Surger due to to her A aptitude to the running style. Not only that, but she also has access to the Late Surger skill On Your Left!, further making Late Surger her best running style.

While it appears she can be trained for the other aptitudes Medium and Long, Mile is the most suitable distance for her, due to a part of her kit being only effective in Mile races (Keen Eye and Unyielding Spirit are good examples), along with her lack of growth rate for Stamina and focused growth rates on Power and Guts instead.

Her only initial aptitude also is Mile, which means in the scenario Unity Cup she will get mostly Mile skills from Unity Training, due to the mechanics of giving skill hints revolving around natural aptitudes.

Prioritize Speed and Power

If you plan to build Gold City further beyond her Career completion, you will want to focus on maximizing both her Speed and Power to complement her Late Surger running style.

You will still, however, need to improve Gold City's Stamina as her races consist mostly of both Medium and Long races.

Improve Her Medium and Long Aptitudes

Although Gold City's career races consist mostly of Medium and Long races, she only has B aptitude on both race lengths. As such, make sure to try and improve her Medium and Long aptitudes to at least A using Sparks to maximize her chances of winning.

Legacy and Sparks Guide: Inheritance Explained

Train Enough Stamina for Long Races

Although Gold City needs Speed and Power as a Late Surger, you will need to train her Stamina to help her place during her Long races. As a baseline, try to have at least 400 Stamina for the Kikuka Sho and Arima Kinen, and at least 500 Stamina for the Tenno Sho (Spring).

It's important to note that the required Stamina level can be lower if you have recovery skills.

Stamina Guide

Training Can Be Restricted

Similar to Gold Ship, Gold City has an event (I Overslept!) that restricts all but one Training option. Take note that this can happen multiple times in a row. If your training gets restricted, you can do something else for that turn.

This includes Resting, Recreation, or even Racing. Alternatively, if the only training you can perform has one or more Friendship Trainings on it, you can also opt to Train that turn instead.

Race Benefits Improved Past Senior May

Gold City has been observed to get more stats from non-career races (noticeably boosts to 2 types of stats) starting in Senior Year May period. This makes her ideal for partaking in races in this period and beyond. However, note this would be okay for other scenarios, since for the Unity Cup you still run the risk of missing Unity Training.

Gold City (Authentic / 1928) Build

Recommended Stats

Speed Stamina Power Guts Wit
1200 700 800 400 600

As a Mile Late Surger, Gold City will want Speed, Power, and Wit while having just enough Stamina to get her through the race. If you can meet the recommended statline for Stamina, you can go all out training for Power first then Wit.

It is important to note that if you cannot reach the stats recommended above, you can instead aim for a similar stat distribution. You can then compensate for the missing stats using skills. Additionally, if you are only planning on clearing a career run with Gold City, then you can aim for lower stat numbers, as the stats above are a baseline for Mile Team Trials.

If you plan to use Gold City in Medium and Long Team Trials, you will need to get more Stamina to make sure she can survive the longer runs.

Recommended Support Cards

Unity Cup Build

Speed-Wit Deck
Speed-Power Deck

We recommend a 3 Speed, 3 Wit deck, which should give her the stats she needs to compete in all of her races. Alternatively, you can go with a 3 Speed, 2 Power, 1 Pal deck if you want to try your chances in maximizing her Power stat.

Budget Build

Speed-Power Setup

This deck is for players who are starting out and are still trying to get a feel of the game's mechanics and intricacies. This deck can help you get the needed stats to clear the career, while also providing important skills.

Take advantage of the game's borrowing feature to borrow a powerful MLB SSR, like Kitasan Black. Additionally, if you do not have an MLB copy of Riko Kashimoto (Tracen Academy), it would be better to use another SR Power card instead.

Alternative Support Cards

Recommended Alternative Support Cards

Wit

If you do not have the cards from the recommended deck, you can replace them with a similar stat card that provides skills that Gold City needs.

URA Finale Build

Recommended Stats

Speed-Power Setup

These stats are enough to clear the URA Finale easily, as it provides enough Speed, Stamina, and Power for all of Gold City's career races, especially when partnered with the correct skills. As for the deck, you can either run a 4 Speed, 2 Power deck, or a 3 Speed, 2 Power, 1 Pal deck, with Tazuna Hayakawa as the preferred Pal card.

3★ Mile
3★ Turf
3★ Late Surger

If you intend to train Gold City for longer distance, focus on Medium/Long sparks instead.

For Legacy Sparks, we recommend trying to find Stamina and Power sparks to help with Gold City's races. As for running style and race length aptitudes, aim to maximize securing Mile sparks first, then Turf, and lastly Late Surger.

You can use either your own Veterans, or borrow the ones from your friends. If you do not have Veterans with full sparks, you can go with whatever you have access to.

For Gold City as a Mile Late Surger, the compatible ◎/◯ distance and style skils are good choices, along with good Late Surger skills such as On Your Left, It's On, Furious Feat, Fast and Furious, and Burning Spirit SPD.

The hybrid recovery/debuff skill Keen Eye is also a sound choice; it can be an extra point gain in TT, but is not necessary in other competitive environments if you already have enough Stamina. For inherited uniques, viable picks are generally Red Shift/LP1211-M and Let's Pump Some Iron for Mile TT and CM.

If you cannot get the recommended skills, you can replace them with similar skills that you have access to. You will just need to make sure that Gold City can activate said skills in a race.

Gold City can earn a +1 skill hint for Updrafters if she wins (places 1st) in the early career G1 race Hanshin Juvenile Fillies held in Early Dec of Junior Year. Updrafters is the normal version of Furious Feat which is suitable for Late Surgers, and can be used as an extra late-race accel skill.

You'll want to prepare ahead in training enough to attempt getting 1st in this race, since this is one of the tougher periods to compete due to not having high stats yet.
