Satono Diamond's unique skill activates right as she's entering the final straight. Being well-positioned means she has to be within 2nd to 5th place. This should be fairly easy to activate since she should be close to the front around this point.
The skill also becomes more powerful if she's close to the leader of the race when the skill activates.

Is Satono Diamond (Natural Brilliance) Worth It?
Decent Late Surger for Medium and Long
Satono Diamond comes with some decent skills, particularly a good recovery for Late Surgers in Lie in Wait. This lets her be good in either Medium or Long races. When used in Right tracks, she can also make use of her rare passive to boost both Speed and Power, both important stats for her primary style. However, she doesn't have anything that makes her edge out similar Umas, making her a pull only if you like her character.

Train in the Trackblazer Scenario
When training Satono Diamond, use the brand new Trackblazer (MANT) scenario, as this will allow you to get higher stats than before. Try to participate in 30 to 35 races during your career runs while making sure to prioritize winning G1 races.
To increase the number of races she can participate in and to improve her chances of winning, we recommend getting 4 Mile sparks for Satono Diamond so she can run Mile-Med-Long schedules.
Trackblazer (Make a New Track) Scenario Guide
Build Her As A Late Surger for Long
When building Satono Diamond, try to focus on making her good for Long races as a Late Surger. If you're having trouble winning some of the Long races in the career, learn some skills like mid-race velocity (Corner Adept) or recoveries (Corner Recovery).
Max Out Her Potential
When maxed out, Satono Diamond gains the rare version of Right-Handed, which will boost both her Speed and Power in the right tracks. Although it won't always activate for Team Trials, it's still a fairly good passive to have and can be useful to have in Champions Meetings that meet this condition. Lie in Wait is also a fairly good Late Surger recovery if you don't have the materials for Potential 5 yet.
Aim for Senior Autumn Triple Crown
In most scenarios, securing the Senior Autumn Triple Crown will give Satono Diamond some extra stats and skill hints for Fall Runner. She only has to schedule the Japan Cup since 2 of them are required wins already, making it worth taking.
This secret event is not available in the Trackblazer scenario. However, it's still a good idea to schedule these races during the Senior Year since they're still needed for epithets that grant bonus stats and potentially Homestretch Haste if you also win the Classic Triple Crown and Spring Triple Crown.

Satono Diamond will best be used as a Late Surger for Long teams. As such, she will require high stamina and ideally 2 rare recoveries. She will also want to aim for high Speed and Power. Since she has Long races in her career, aim to have at least 400 Stamina by the Kikuka Sho and 500 Stamina by the Tenno Sho (Spring).
It is important to note that if you cannot reach the stats recommended above, you can instead aim for a similar stat distribution. You can then compensate for the missing stats using skills.
Recommended Support Cards
We recommend a deck that has 2 Speed, 2 Wit, 1 Stamina, and 1 Race Bonus filler for the Trackblazer scenario. She should be able to hit 1000 Stamina with just a maxed out Super Creek SSR. The deck above should give her the stats and race bonus needed to get high stats.
Budget Build
This deck consists mostly of SR cards, and is meant for players who do not have many SSR Support Cards. Despite the lower rarity, this deck can still hold up and perform well in the latest scenario. Take advantage of the game's borrowing feature to borrow a powerful MLB SSR, like Super Creek (Piece of Mind).

These cards will help Satono Diamond level her needed Stats (especially with Rainbow/Friendship Training), as well as provide some needed skills. Try to prioritize cards with a high Race Bonus, as you want at least 50% Race Bonus in your deck.

Long 4★ Mile (Trackblazer) |
For Legacy Sparks, we recommend boosting Power and inheriting some Stamina sparks to hit high stats for both of them. She can also aim to get distance sparks for Long to improve her speed there. For Trackblazer, also aim to get 4 Mile sparks so she can also win Mile races.
You can use either your own Veterans, or borrow the ones from your friends. If you do not have Veterans with full sparks, you can go with whatever you have access to.

Nimble Navigator
Professor of Curvature
On Your Left!Aim to get two rare recovery skills to help her survive some of the longer races in Team Trials. Mid-race velocity skills are also good to help her get in a good position before accelerating in the late-race. For acceleration, she can use On Your Left! as a random Late Surger acceleration.
She can also learn Right-Handed Demon but beware that it won't always work in Team Trials.
If you cannot get the recommended skills, you can replace them with similar skills that you have access to. You will just need to make sure that Satono Diamond can activate said skills in a race.
