One of the first things you can do is reroll in the support gacha. Support cards are similar to equipment, in that they dictate the skills your trainees (or characters) have access to, as well as how well their stats increase in training. As such, it is ideal to roll in the support gacha until you get one or two powerful cards.
While this step is ideal, you can choose to skip it if you just want to start playing.

An easy way to get more Carats is by reading the game's story. You can either read the game's Main Story, the Side Stories, or the Event Stories if there is an ongoing event.
If you are trying to save time, you can choose to skip the story after selecting it, or opt to skip this step entirely.

Upon starting a new game, you will receive numerous rewards, including a 3-Star Selector Ticket. This allows you to select and receive any 3-star trainee that you want (from the base pool of trainees).
Oguri Cap is a good pick, as she is relatively easy to train, has a powerful Unique Skill, and is feasible for both Turf and Dirt racing.
Best Starter Character and Support Card
Alternatively, you can also choose to pick your favorite character, as all of the 3-star Trainees are strong in their own right. Not only that, but playing this game can become more enjoyable for you if you choose a character you like, rather than a strong character that you don't.

Before your run, try to add a few friends, as they can help you during your runs via their Support Cards and Legacy. Try to add a variety of Support Cards and Legacies so that you have flexibility when it comes to preparing for careers.

After selecting the trainee you want to train, you will then need to select two Legacies, which will provide your trainee with Stat and Aptitude boosts, as well as hints for Skills. You can either select two of your Veterans, or borrow a Veteran from your friend alongside your own (for a cost).
Afterward, prepare your Support Card deck. This consists of 6 cards of your picking, one of which will be borrowed from another player. Each Support card has a Stat tied to it, and will help improve the Stat they are tied to. As such, having a good mix of cards is essential to make sure that your trainee will get the stats they need.

During Early April of your Classic and Senior Year of training, your Trainee will be inspired and inherit stats and Skill Hints from her Legacies. As such, it is important to select the best Legacies to give your Trainees a boost of strength during your career runs.
Legacy and Sparks Inheritance Explained

Once you are training your character, you will want to increase their stats and unlock skills to prepare them for their career races. Some important stats to train are Speed, Stamina, and Wit. Speed dictates your trainee's max speed, Stamina dictates how long they can run at top speed, and Wit helps with skill activation and preventing Rushed.
Skills, on the other hand, can be unlocked using Skill Points, which you can get by training or winning races. Once you have enough Skill points, unlock the Skills that you need.
Training Guide: Which Stats to Train?
| Speed | Stamina | Power |
|---|---|---|
| Guts | Wit | Wit |
Speed, as mentioned above, dictates the max speed that your Umamusume can attain during a race. The higher it is, the faster they can go. Stamina, on the other hand, dictates how long your Umamusume can run at full speed.
Power determines how fast your Umamusume can reach top speed, or their acceleration, in other words. Next is Guts, which affects your Umamusume's performance in the final stretch.
Lastly, there's Wit, which affects skill activation, as well as lowers the chances of getting Rushed.

You can also get stats, Skill points, and Skill hints (which lessen Skill point requirement) from the numerous Events you will encounter. The events you encounter will be based on your trainee, the support cards you have, and the scenario you are in.
Some events will provide set buffs or debuffs, while others will give you a choice that changes your reward. You can use our Event Choice Checker to know which choices you should pick.

After you either win the final scenario race or fail to meet your career goals, your trainee's career will end. Your trainee will then receive a rank based on their stats and skills. This will then convert your trainee into a Veteran, which will help you in various ways.

After getting some Monies and Support Points, you can then proceed to level up your Support Cards. This will improve the card's stats, such as its Friendship Bonus, Training Effectiveness, and more. This is important, as a leveled SR support card can usually outperform underleveled SSR support cards.

Try to increase your trainee's Potential, as this will unlock more Skills that they can use in careers. Some strong skills are locked behind Potential levels, so make sure to level them whenever possible.

Winning Races rewards you with materials that you can use to strengthen your Trainees, be it by increasing their Potential, or by leveling your Support Cards.

When possible, try to increase your trainee's Star Level, as higher levels increase your trainee's starting stats. Not only that, but increasing the Star Level of a 1-star or 2-star trainee to 3-stars will evolve their Unique Skill into a stronger version, giving you an even bigger advantage in races.
You can get Star Pieces by geting duplicates of your trainees from the Gacha, or by trading Goddess Statues.

After finishing a Career run, it is ideal to check on your Veteran Team. You will use this team in Team Trials, and it is made up of your Veterans.
If you have Veterans who are better than those in your current team, do not hesitate to replace them. This will help increase your Veteran Team's rating, which will in turn unlock more features.

As you always want your best Veterans in your Team, you will need to keep performing runs to get better and better Veterans. Better Veterans with strong Sparks will also help your future career runs by strengthening your Trainees.
| Unlocked Feature | Team Rank | Key Role |
|---|---|---|
| Daily Race | E | Your main source of Monies and Support Points |
| Club | E3 | You can request certain items from club members, while also receiving a discount when borrowing their Veteran as a Legacy. |
By increasing your Team Level, you unlock other game features, namely the Daily Races and Clubs. Daily Races lets you farm Monies and Support Points every day, while Clubs give you numerous boons, namely Item Requests and discounts when borrowing Veterans for Legacy.
