The Story So Far

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sees Task Force 141 band together as they continue the fight to stop global conflict. Read on to get up to speed on the story so far and what to expect in the Campaign.

The Story So Far

Setting Up Modern Warfare 2

During the conclusion of the previous game, we see Captain John Price and his team successfully prevent a chemical attack on the country of Urzikstan as well as kill the Russian terrorist leader, Roman Barkov. After the cutscene of Farah and Nikolai riding back to Urzikstan, another cutscene shows Price meeting up with CIA Station Chief Kate Laswell.

Laswell delivers the files Price asked for and informs him of a new player in the game in the form of Victor Zakhaev. Price reveals a few names for his new crew as well as the name of his team, the iconic Task Force 141.

MW2 Takes Place 3 Years Later

The story for MW2 takes place 3 years after the events of Modern Warfare. The game takes place across multiple locations in the world and sees Task Force 141 continue the fight against Al-Qatala, the terrorist organization introduced in the previous game. The game also introduces Major Hassan who is the leader of this terrorist group.

Modern Warfare 2 sees Task Force 141 led by Captain John Price. This team joins forces with Mexican special forces to take on the different missions across the globe and put a stop against Al-Qatala's crimes.

Farah Karim

Ghost, Price, Farah and Soap in the Red Team 141 Operator Skins

Commander Farah Karim makes her return to the series as one of the Operators available in Multiplayer game modes. There is no official news if she will be part of the main Campaign in any way.

In addition to Farah, players that pre-order the Vault Edition will get three other classic Multiplayer Operators: Ghost, Price, and Soap.

Kate Laswell

Kate Laswell returns as the CIA Station Chief who works closely with Capt. Price. She gives intel and provides resources to Price and played a part in assembling together Task Force 141.

Phillip Graves

Phillip Graves is a new character that was first introduced in the official gameplay reveal for the Dark Water level. Graves also makes an appearance in the official launch trailer interrogating Hassan.

General Shepherd

Glenn Morshower lends his voice as well as his likeness to General Shepherd.

While General Shepherd was only mentioned in the previous game, he finally makes his in-game debut with MW2. It is unknown what role he plays in the game but longtime fans of the original series know his significance to the story.

Victor Zakhaev

At the end of the previous game, Victor Zakhaev was mentioned to be the next adversary of Captain Price and his team. While Zakhaev was seemingly killed off during the destruction of Verdansk, there's a chance that he could still make an appearance in the game.

As with some of the other characters, Zakhaev is one of the primary antagonists of the original Modern Warfare series. His fate in the reboot differs significantly from the original series.
