How to Recruit Hossabara
Joins Through Character Stories

Hossabara joins through Character Stories. Characters who will join your party from Character Stories are affected by Serenoa's Conviction. You need to reach a certain number of points for Morality, Utility, and Liberty to get them. However, these values are hidden on your first playthrough. The only way for you to check how many points you have gathered for each is to finish your first playthrough and unlock New Game Plus.
You'll know a character story is available by checking its icon on the lower right section of the map. Press the + button to watch the character story and possibly recruit a new member of your team!
How to Increase Serenoa's Conviction
How to Increase Utility

Hossabara is a skilled knight who can deal fatal blows to enemies and protect her allies at the same time. Her aptitude allows her to heal allies within range, as well as herself and an ally when she perfoms a follow-up attack.
She is a well-rounded unit and can be used either as a frontliner or a healer in battle.

Recommended Weapon Upgrades
Tavernkeep's Staff
You can obtain the passive skill HP Recovery for Two when you upgrade Hossabara's weapon to rank 2. This allows one of your units to recover some HP as long as Hossabara can perform a follow-up attack on your target.
Plover's Staff
Upon unlocking Hossabara's third weapon, she can learn Catapult, which sends one of your units to any location within 5 tiles while also raising their physical and magic defense. This is useful for launching one of your tanky units into the enemy lines to distract them.
