Lionel joins through Character Stories. Characters who will join your party from Character Stories are affected by Serenoa's Conviction. You need to reach a certain number of points for Morality, Utility, and Liberty to get them. However, these values are hidden on your first playthrough. The only way for you to check how many points you have gathered for each is to finish your first playthrough and unlock New Game Plus.

You'll know a character story is available by checking its icon on the lower right section of the map. Press the + button to watch the character story and possibly recruit a new member of your team!

Lionel Aptitude

Lionel's expertise lies in his way with words when talking to people. In battle, he can infuriate foes and even talk them into defecting. Other times he'll talk to enemies and lower their guards down, thus decreasing their physical and magical defense.

Lionel can also help you farm items in the battlefield. Equip him with a Golden Pinkie Ring and send him to the battlefield to increase the chances of the enemy units to drop spoils. This is a great way to farm for Medals that you need to promote your units as well!

Assailing the Afflicted

A passive ability that increases Lionel's damage dealt to enemies inflicted with status ailments.

Golden Opportunity

A usable ability in battle where you throw your money at enemies to deal physical damage and tempt them for 1 turn(s).

Recommended Weapon Upgrades

Whip

Most of Lionel's weapons can inflict status effects on your enemies. You can take advantage of this offensively and get his passive skill Assailing the Afflicted even without upgrading his weapon. This increases the damage he deals on units with status effects.

Additionally, if you have other units that can put status effects on enemy units, it can be a good idea to include Lionel, along with this upgrade, in the lineup.

Thorny Whip

Lionel's Exclusive Weapon Abilities can be unlocked once you upgrade his weapon to rank two. You can activate Ruffle Feathers Success Rate Up to boost this ability which tempts an enemy unit to attack other enemy units for two turns. In this way, you have fewer enemies to deal with for a few turns.
