Triangle Strategy - Beginner

This is a hands-on guide to the basics of battle for Triangle Strategy. Read on to learn about the best ways to battle, how to position allies, turn order, and more!

Positioning in Battle

How to Deal Greater Damage Through Positioning

A character's positioning is vital and can make or break battles in Triangle Strategy. Aside from leveling up, upgrading weapons and using abilities, proper positioning can also help with being able to deal massive damage to your foes!

Remember, these positioning methods also apply to your enemies, so plan accordingly!

Height Advantages

Triangle Strategy Height Advantage

Attacks from higher ground than that of your target deal increased damage.

Try to find higher ground by positioning your character on steps, ledges, and slopes.

Hughette's Aptitudes

Triangle Strategy Hughette Aptitude

Rain arrows down on foes from the back of a hawk!

Hughette's hawk mount has access to traversing terrain with large elevation changes. Apart from being able to deal more damage, being on higher ground increases her attack range as well!

Back Attacks

Triangle Strategy Back Attack

A mark will appear when you perform a back attack.

Attacks from behind are guaranteed to score a critical hit.

It is not recommended to do back attacks at the first few turns of battle, as going behind the enemy might have you closer to the enemy side, making you open to attacks, potentially even from behind.

Follow-Up Attacks

Triangle Strategy Follow Up Attack

A mark will appear if attacking the selected target will perform a follow-up attack.

When an enemy is struck with a physical attack, any allies on the opposite side of that enemy will perform a follow up attack.

This positioning is highly recommended at the middle or latter part of a battle once both sides have positioned themselves closer to one another.

Moving and Targeting Your Party

Panel Colors and Attack Lines

During Movement

Triangle Strategy Panels
1. Blue Panels: Within movement range, but out of enemy's range of attack.
2. Purple Panels: Within movement range and enemy's range of attack.
3. Red Lines: Indicate enemies that can attack the unit.

When Targeting an Enemy

Triangle Strategy Panels
4. Red Panels: Indicate your attack range.
5. Yellow Panels: Indicate the area of effect for the selected command.

Attack Range Differs Per Class

Triangle Strategy Attack Range

Roland is a melee warrior with range!

Most melee characters have limited range, having only a single panel attack range in front, behind, and the sides where they are positioned.

However, there are melee characters like Roland whose Aptitude in battle is to strike foes 2 panels in front of him with this spear.

In addition, ranged characters who specialize in magic (both offensive and support) as well as bow attacks have greater range than that of melee characters.

Turn Order

Dependent on Character's Speed

Triangle Strategy Turn Order Crop

The order in which units take action is determined by their speed attribute. Upcoming turn order is displayed via the AT Bar at the bottom of the screen.

To get a better understanding of the turn order, press Y on a panel without a character to show the turn number of each character in the field.
