Criteria for Ranking

The walkthrough team came up with this tier list according to each unit's strength, accessibility, and overall usefulness in battle.

Character strength is evaluated based on how well a unit fits using an offensive playstyle. Units that can hit strong and hard are favored over slower units.

Character accessibiity refers to how easy it is to recruit a certain unit. Units you can obtain within your first playthrough are favored over those that require players to explore different paths.

Overall Usefulness refers to a unit's ability to fit a certain team role. Units that perform better than others that play the same role were placed higher.

Best Units for Early Game

Anna

Anna's strength lies in her mobility and powerful attacks. Her ability, Act Twice, is her biggest strength because it allows her to do two actions in each turn. Make the most of this ability by doing a back attack on an opponent and making sure to have another unit on the other side to do a follow-up.

With Act Twice, you can also earn a lot more kudos from back attacks and follow-ups from allied units.

Benedict

Despite not having great offensive and defensive stats, Benedict boasts a wide array of abilities that can buff alllies and turn the battle around when you're in a pinch. He can improve physical and magic damage, and grant bonus mobility and bulk.

He can't fight on his own though, so make sure to pair him with another unit such as Roland or Serenoa.

Roland

Glenbrook's younger prince is a skilled knight with great offensive stats and mobility. His weapon also allows him to attack multiple enemies at once.

Do note that his defensive stats are not very high. Having Benedict and Geela around to keep Roland healthy maximizes his presence in battle.

Hughette

Hughette is an excellent archer with great mobility, range, and damage. She can take advantage of higher platforms to extend her range, allowing her to snipe enemies from a safe place and gain kudos.

Some of Hughette's abilities can inflict status ailments on enemies too! Shadowstitching Arrow is very helpful in battle because it can immobilize an enemy, while Blinding Arrow gives her a chance to blind an enemy for 3 turns.

Geela

Geela is a great healer and her ability to keep the team healthy is indispensable. She can get you through the most difficult battles in the earlier parts of the game with the help of her abilities that heal and buff allies.

Geela can have access to the ability Heal What Ails You that heals an ally's status ailments. Having Geela around to heal your units will make the fight easier.

Geela's defenses are not super high so it's wise to keep her close to her allies so that they can defend her when she's in trouble.

Best Units for Mid to Late Game

Anna

Like before, you can exploit Anna's ability Act Twice to deal massive damage to enemies. Promoting her to an Assassin will give her access to other abilities that grant utility and mobility.

This added mobility becomes very useful in many mid-game battles that require you to reach certain parts of the map or defeat specific enemies.

Use Surmount in combination with Take Cover to move easily around the map undetected.

Serenoa

Serenoa is great to have in battles because of the damage he can deal to enemies whether or not it is his turn.

His ability Counter Stance allows you to damage enemies even on their turn because he strikes back. He also has Sweeping Slash, an ability that allows him to hit all enemies that surround him.

Narve

Narve is an excellent magic-user that can harness all the elements. He has good mobility and magic damage output.

It's great to have him in battles to exploit elemental weaknesses and terrain effects. Physical attacks don't work well against armored enemies so you can have Narve take care of them using his magic.

Furthermore, Narve can also be a substitue healer using his ability Sanctuary. However, his abilities cost a lot of TP so you can pair him with someone who can provide him TP like Julio.

Medina

Medina's strength lies in her usefulness during battles. Her ability TP Physick is absolutely helpful in battles. It allows Medina to grant 1 TP to an ally when she uses a recovery item on them. Although her abilities rely heavily on items, it shouldn't be a problem since she has a passive that lets her obtain a bonus recovery pellet when picking up spoils.

Aside from being a great healer, she also has decent damage output. Overall, Medina is a great and well-rounded unit that you would definitely want to use in battles.

Best Unit for Farming Items

Lionel

If you're looking into farming medals to promote your units, Lionel is your guy. With the help of his aptitude, he can increase the chances of enemies to drop spoils and coins in a battle.

Equip him with a Golden Pinkie Ring and a Jade Thumb Ring from the Provisioner to maximize spoils and EXP earned from a battle.
