Tier 1 Mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) has been removed and replaced by Hardcore Mode in the Season 2 update last February 15, 2023. Read on to learn about the details of Tier 1 mode and why it was removed from the game.
The classic Hardcore mode has been recently added in Modern Warfare 2 for the Season 2 update to replace Tier 1 mode. The latter brought disappointment to players and fans of Call of Duty as it didn't stick to the traditional core mechanics of Hardcore Mode from the older titles — such as completely removing the HUD in Tier 1 which players weren't in favor of.
As a result, Infinity Ward has completely removed the mode and added Hardcore mode in its place.
This is what your HUD looks like when playing Tier 1.
Tier 1 was a new game mode introduced in Season 1 that is fairly similar to the classic Hardcore mode. Operators will have less health, deal friendly fire to teammates, no death replays, and the mini map is disabled — however unlike its predecessor, Tier 1 completely removes the HUD of a player whereas the old hardcore mode has limited HUD elements present such as hit markers.
Tier 1 was released along with the Season 1 update, Battle Pass, Warzone 2.0 and more. Players were able to participate in the Tier 1 game mode lobby on MWII under the Multiplayer Tab.
