To mine Clay, you need to have the Silk Touch Enchantment on the appropriate tool. Mining this block without Silk Touch will result in the block being completely destroyed or dropping its constituent items.

With the 1.19 Update, you can now obtain Clay with Mud. You'll just need to place Mud on top of a block that has a Dripstone underneath. After a few seconds, the Mud will turn into Clay.
Clay is commonly found underwater, usually at the bottom of Oceans, Swamps, and Rivers. Small patches of Clay can also sometimes be found on the shores of beaches.
You'll often find large patches of clay surrounding ponds in Lush Caves. These are great areas for gathering Clay due to their abundance here.
Clay can be found in the houses of Masons in Villages. These would be the homes that contain Stonecutters. You shouldn't rely on these areas for gathering Clay, however, due to the small amounts found here.
Clay can also be used as an ingredient for crafting other blocks and items, and the following listed below are recipes where Clay can be used to make.
