Flax is needed to create Linen, which is then used to craft Gambesons.

Construct a Weaver's Workshop and assign a Family to it to begin production of Linen.
2 Linen is required to create 1 Gambeson, so make sure you have enough Flax by the end of the harvest season.

Build a Level 2 Burgage Plot
Upgrade a Burgage Plot to Level 2. Burgage Plots cost 4 Timber to upgrade, and must meet certain amenity requirements before being upgradeable.

Purchase a Tailor's Workshop

Once your Burgage Plot is Level 2, Purchase the Tailor's Workshop Backyard Extension. This converts the resident family to Artisans, allowing the production of Clothes, Cloaks, and Gambesons.
After the Tailor's Workshop is constructed, begin the Production of Gambesons to bolster your Army's Ranks!

Gambesons, along with Mail Armor and Helmets are Armor Pieces for your Militia. Each type of Militia can wear Gambesons, and doing so will improve their defenses.
