Can Only Accomodate Sheep

The main use of a Pasture is to graze Sheep for their Wool. It works in tandem with the Sheep Farm where an assigned family will tend to the flock of sheep.

What is Pasture Space?

The Pasture features a flexible plot placement similar to Burgage Plots and Marketplaces, allowing you to freely control the size and shape as needed.

Larger Pastures have more Pasture Space, essentially allowing more sheep to graze the field. Keep this in mind when building Pastures, since limiting the Pasture Space can affect your Sheep negatively.

Acquire Sheep or Lambs by Importing

To populate your Pasture, you must first acquire Sheep or Lambs for your settlement. These can be done through the Livestock Trading Post, and will cost you Regional Wealth to set up a Trade Route and subsequent costs per animal.

Breed Sheep Through Sheepbreeding Development

Once you have several Sheep in your pasture, you can stop relying on imports and breed Sheep to produce Lambs, which can mature and become Sheep after at least 1 Year.

Excess Lambs can also be exported to earn Regional Wealth, should you decide that you already have enough for your settlement.

Assign a Family Through a Sheep Farm

Similar to how Fields require a Farmhouse to assign families, Pastures require a Sheep Farm to assign a family and oversee Wool production.

A family assigned to a Sheep Farm will continue working even if the Pasture is located away from the Farm, but we recommend keeping these buildings together to make transporting goods faster.

Sheep Do Not Produce Food

Despite being Livestock, Sheep will only produce Wool for your settlement, and can not be used as a food source.

How to Fix Sheep Not Grazing

Build Pasture and Sheep Farm Before Importing Sheep

If you first Import Sheep from the Livestock Trading Post before constructing the Pasture and Sheep Farm, the sheep may not recognize the pasture, and remain stuck in the Livestock Trading Post instead.

To avoid this, make sure that the Pasture and Sheep Farm are fully built first before Importing Sheep, to ensure that they recognize the Pasture once they arrive.

Demolish Buildings to Move Sheep

In some cases, you can opt to demolish the structure where the Sheep are located to force them to recognize the Pasture and start grazing.

You can Demolish the Livestock Trading Post to relocate Sheep to the Pasture, or even Demolish Pastures to relocate Sheep to graze fields if you have the Fertilization Development Node unlocked.

Pasture vs Sheep Farm

The Pasture is the Grazing Area of Sheep

The Pasture is the area where sheep and lamb freely graze. This is an area set by the player and is usually next to a Sheep Farm.

The Sheep Farm Tends the Sheep

The Sheep Farm is the facility that tends to the flock of sheep that graze inside a nearby Pasture. A family works in a Sheep Farm with the goal of taking care of the sheep for their Wool.
