What Happens When You Offer Hypnos a Gift?

Hypnos Mumbles His Usual Line From the First Game

Hades II - Hypnos Character Guide Hypnos Gift
Hypnos' Dialogue When Offered Nectar
"Zzzzz, welcome to the... haah, zzzz..."

When offered Nectar as a gift, Hypnos will mumble out his usual line from the first game. It may not be as coherent, however, given that he mumbles the line while sleeping.

Unlike other gods and beings, Hypnos offers no rewards when given Nectar as a gift from Melinoe.

Hypnos Backstory

Hypnos Still Slumbers During Melinoe's Flashback

Hades II - Hypnos Character Guide Flashback
During a flashback where Melinoe was roaming The Crossroads as a young child, Hypnos was seen slumbering peacefully on his hammock.

It was apparent that Hypnos had been asleep for countless years before the events of the game.

Greets Zagreus When He Dies During the First Game

Similar to Hades 2, Hypnos was also the stationed god of the Underworld that greeted and mocked Zagreus, Melinoe's older brother, during the events of the first game.

He was the first to welcome Zagreus after his initial death in the game, and has continued to do so following Zag's succeeding deaths.

Hypnos in Mythology

God of Sleep, Son of Nyx

Hades II - Hypnos Character Guide Melinoe
Hypnos is the god and personification of sleep in Greek Mythology. Together with his brother Thanatos, they roam the vast ruins of the Underworld and never see the light of day.

He is birthed by the goddess Nyx, who gave conception to Hypnos without a father. As the Goddess of the Night, Nyx gave birth to many beings that associated themselves with the hours of darkness.

The term hypnosis comes from his name, which is reinforced by the fact that people are put to sleep when under the trance of hypnosis.
