Hades 2 - Hecate Boons and Gameplay Tips

Hecate, Witch of the Crossroads, is the first boss of the Underworld in Hades 2, appearing at the end of the Erebus. Learn how to counter all of Hecate's attacks, and the easiest way to beat her.

Use Special Attacks

With the early game weapons at your disposal, most of its Special Attacks have longer range than Hecate's common attacks. Since these do not cost any Magick to cast, you can focus on dodging and spam Specials from afar to whittle down Hecate's HP.

If you have Boons that augment your Special, the battle will become much more easier, since dealing higher damage means you get to defeat Hecate faster.

Try to Get HP Buffs or Armor

Rolling a Location with Arachne ultimately falls to chance, so getting an Armor from her can be quite tricky. HP Buffs are more common, so you should choose these over item rewards.

Whenever you have an opportunity to choose an Armor piece from Arachne or an HP Buff, you should always take it, to add a layer of protection against Hecate's barrage of attacks.

Familiarize Yourself With Hecate's Attacks

While having good Boons and additional HP or Armor definitely makes the fight easier, it all boils down to your ability to choose when to dodge and when to attack Hecate.

Hecate, like all the other enemies in this game have a wind-up animation before each attack, so time your dashes when you know an attack is coming to minimize the risk of getting hit.

Crossed Flames
Description:
Hecate conjures an expanding magic circle (similar to Melinoe's Cast) that retracts once it reaches its maximum size.		 How to Counter:
Sprint away from Hecate's cast range. You can also attack with Specials while out of range.
Umbral Flames
Description:
Hecate swings her Torch and launches an arc projectile, followed by another one.		 How to Counter:
Dash once Hecate begins the attack wind-up.
Triple Divide
Description:
Hecate creates two clones that mimic her real body's Attacks.		 How to Counter:
Stay out of range of all three, or find the real body to deal damage.
Hex
Description:
Hecate launches a fast moving bouncing sphere that will constantly follow Melinoe and will turn her into a Sheep.		 How to Counter:
Once hexed, focus on dodging until Hex is removed.
Sisters of the Dead
Description:
Hecate summons Witches that launch projectiles. While the Witches are alive, Hecate is invulnerable, and will continously attack Melinoe.		 How to Counter:
Defeat all summoned Witches to remove Hecate's shield.

Hecate mainly focuses on close range and mid-range attacks. Fighting from a distance essentially nullifies half of Hecate's moveset, so always opt for ranged attacks if you can.

Focus on getting Special boons if you are struggling against Hecate, since you can easily defeat her with the Witch's Staff or Sister Blade's Specials.
