Resistance allows you to significantly decrease the damage you take in Dragon Quest Monster: The Dark Prince (DQM3). It also allows you to resist falling under the effects of status ailments. Read on to learn more about resistance traits, the advantages of increasing resistance, and how to increase your resistance!

If you press the Y button on the monster's character screen you see the numerical values of each resistance.
If the resistance of a monster to a certain element or ailment is 100 or more, the damage that the attack would have dealt or the status ailment would be nullified. If your monster has a resistance level of 125 or higher, then it will heal from attacks
Monsters with an Ultra Crafty trait can reduce an enemy's resistance by 50 to deal greater damage and inflict ailments easier. Even against a Metal King Slime with a Resistance of 100 for most elements, an Ultra Crafy trait will reduce the resistance by 50 allowing you to deal damage, making these valuable traits.
By equipping the right accessories, you can also lower the resistance of enemies enough to be able to deal just a little bit more damage.
If you lower your enemy's Resistance with an Ultra Crafty trait, it will be easier to damage them more. It also makes it easier to inflict a status ailment and turn the tide of battle.
Monsters are immune to damage if their resistance is at 100 or greater, however it is possible to go beyond the 100 limit. This acts as a way to counteract the Ultra Crafty Traits that lower your resistance by 50.
To find out a monster's resistance, open the monster character menu with the X button and select a monster to view its skills, resistance, and more. Alternatively, you can also view the resistance data of every monster you've scouted in the Monsterpedia.
During battle, you will not be able to verify an enemy's resistance unless you have already obtained the enemey before. Similarly, during online ranked PVP battles, you will not be able to verify an enemy's resistance and skills. You will have to anticipate their values.
Although you can't see the enemy's resistance, you can view status changes in battle. With this you can also deduce whether your enemy has an Ultra Crafty trait by cross-referencing with your own resistance values, especially if you have a status ailment.
By increasing your Resistance level to 150, you can negate the effects of Ultra Crafty traits. This is most advantageous especially in online PVP battles.

You can increase yourResistance by a number of ways using traits and accessories.
Synthesizing L-Sized Monsters also increases their resistance to status ailments by 50. If you take a monster with a base resistance of 50 and synthesize it into a L-sized monsters, you can increase it's resistance to the point of nullifying status ailments.

Learning an Ultra Ward Trait also drastically increases your resistance by 50. If you have a base resistance of 50, learning the Ultra Ward trait to that attribute will completely nullify attacks made with the same attribute.
Some accessories also give minor bonuses to resistances. This is usually just a +10 in resistance but it is still recommended that you increase your resistance even if it just by a little.
