You can carry over up to eight monsters from the Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (DQM3) demo into the main game. Read on to view our demo guide, and which elements from the demo carry over to the main game.
List of Contents
Up to eight monsters can be carried over from the demo to the main game, though they don't keep their level and skills. Everything else can't be carried over.

You can carry over up to eight monsters from the demo to the main game: up to four from your party and four from your reserves.
Unfortunately, your monsters in the Paddock won't be transferred. If you have a monster in the Paddock that you want to transfer, you'll need to switch it with one from your party or reserves.
Also note that levels, skills, and attributes of monsters won't get transferred over. You'll need to train them up again after transferring.
If you have an L size monster in the demo, you can carry it over to the main game. Take into consideration that it will take up two slots, so you'll have to give up one valuable slot to transfer an L size monster.
Your progress in the story and the items you collected are not carried over to the main game. You'll need to start over again in the main game (aside from the transferred monsters that you have).
This section is a walkthrough to the demo, showing what you need to do to progress the story.
1 | Select your name and game settings. |
---|---|
2 | After the starting dialogue, go outside the house, then find Monty and talk to him. Note: Places and people marked with red pin marks are related to the progress of the story. |
3 | After the cutscene, answer Monty's questions to receive your starting monster. |
Starting Monster | Answer 1 | Answer 2 | Answer 3 |
---|---|---|---|
Fright Bulb | Yes | Yes | - |
Platypunk | No | No | - |
Mud Mannequin | Yes No |
No Yes |
Yes Yes |
Cruelcumber | Yes No |
No Yes |
No No |
Monty will ask you two or three questions. He'll only ask two if you selected the same answer for the first two questions.
Depending on your set of answers, you'll get a monster from the four monsters in the table above. If you're not satisfied with the one you got, select No when Monty asks if you're happy so you can change your answers.
How to Answer Questions: Choose Your Starting Monster
Don't worry about missing out on the other starting monsters. They're not limited only during the starting monster selection; you can get them through synthesis later in the game.
1 | After the cutscene, you'll now begin the battle tutorial with Fuzzy. Bump into a monster to start a battle.
Note: You can begin scouting from the first battle. |
---|---|
2 | While the season is still summer, you can climb through the ivy vines that lead to higher places. Head to the location marked with the red pin in the map. Note: Scout as much monsters as you can. Having four monsters will make it easier to win battles. |
3 | The season will change to autumn through a cutscene as you proceed. You'll gain a new target location near the waterfall. Note: We recommend scouting a Capsichum during autumn. It is a very useful monster in the early game. |
4 | The season will change to winter as you reach the target location. Keep going through the path towards the red pin in the map. Note: We recommend scouting a Khalamari Kid, which you can only get during winter. It's another useful monster to have early in the game. |
5 | After the tutorial, Fuzzy will teach you Zoom, which is the fast travel mechanic for this game. Return to Rosehill once you're done exploring. Note: Monty will unlock the Paddock upon returning, so change your party there if you want to. |
6 | Talk to Monty again to unlock the Endor Colosseum. Travel there through the teleportal, and talk to the receptionist. |
7 | Challenge Category G and win three battles in a row. ▶︎ Endor Arena Guide and How to Win the Arena |
Fright Bulb | Slime | Capsichum |
To win Category G (and as a general tip), carry a healing monster or two to preserve your monsters' health; the monsters above learn Heal early on. It's not a bad idea to have more than one healer monster.
Heal Skill Effect and Required Talents
Cruelcumber | Vegandragora |
Since you're facing multiple monsters in a battle, damaging AoE skills like Sizz are incredibly useful to have. Two to three hits of Sizz will usually end a battle since the enemies in this category are still pretty weak.
Sizz Skill Effect and Required Talents
1 | Get through the cutscenes involving the Rose the elf. Then, exit Rosehill Tower and go back to Endor Colosseum. Note: Train your monsters up to level 7-8 first to make the following step easier. |
---|---|
2 | Talk to the receptionist, then enter and win the Category F tournament. |
3 | After winning, you'll encounter Furgil, who will give you the Red Travelite. |
4 | Return to Rosehill Tower and talk to Rose at the top floor to use the Red Travelite. |
5 | Go down to the 1st floor and go outside to arrive at the Circle of Conquest, Lower Echelon. |
6 | Follow the path towards the Maulosseum. Note: Make sure to level your monsters up for a bit; we recommend leveling to 9 or higher. |
7 | Talk to the receptionist to register, then enter and win the Maulosseum's Category G tournament. |
8 | Upon winning, you'll get the Yellow Travelite. Return to Rosehill Tower, finish the cutscene, then examine to the magic circle to return to Rosehill. |
9 | Try to leave the room to encounter Monty, who will inform you of synthesis. Go to the bottom floor and talk to him again to start synthesizing monsters. Note: Only level 10 monsters and above can be used for synthesis. |
Stump Chump | Capsichum |
In the third round of the Category F tournament in Endor, you'll encounter a powerful Flython that inflicts Poison on your monsters, which can get troublesome. If you're having trouble defeating it, carry a monster that knows Squelch to cure the poison from all your allies.
Squelch Skill Effect and Required Talents
If you try to scout the monsters around Circle of Conquest, Lower Echelon before winning Category G in the Maulosseum, you'll notice that it is much harder than before in Terrestria. You can still succeed but your chances are much lower.
If you want to make it easier to scout the monsters there, win the tournament in Maulosseum first.
After winning in the Maulosseum, you'll also finally unlock synthesis, an integral part of the Monsters series. You need to train monsters to level 10 or higher before you can use them for synthesis.
Synthesized monsters have more benefits and are usually more powerful than unsynthesized ones, so don't hold on your scouted monsters for too long once they exceed level 10.
Synthesis Guide and Calculator
Note that none of the things below will get carried over to the main game; this is just a list of all you can do in the demo.
You can fill up the Monsterpedia in your demo. There are many areas playable in the demo, and you can take your time filling up your Monsterpedia with entries; some monsters are only accessible with synthesis!
You can check how many monsters you've collected in the Monsterpedia by pressing the Y button while you're on the field, then pressing the X button.
You can unlock up to the Category E Tournament in both the Colosseum and Maulosseum. Train up your monsters and make use of the synthesis mechanic to get more powerful monsters to win!
Endor Arena Guide and How to Win the Arena
There are many treasure chests, accessories, and other items across all the areas in the demo for you to collect. Progress through the story demo and explore all the maps in all season to get all the items in the demo.
