Here are 9 beginner tips for you to quickly master Dragon Quest Monsters:
Example Trait | Compatible Skills |
---|---|
Insta-Oomph Random Ooomph |
Physical Skills such as Whack and Thwack |
Insta-Ping Rando-Ping |
Healing Spells such as Heal and Multiheal |
Major Downer | Debuff skillls such as Sap and Blunt |
Bigger Upper | Buff Skills like Buff and Ping |
There is no denying that powerful traits are powerful regardless of the monster that has them, but some monsters will have better synergy with skills that are compatible to their inherent traits.
There is much more to gain when you synthesize your monsters and produce new monsters. Although it may seem like a loss to lose 2 parent monsters in order to get just 1 monster, the benefits greatly outweigh the loss because the produced monster will have significantly higher stats and skill points.

As you progress in the story, it is natural that enemies will be become increasingly difficult to defeat. It is recommended that you raise your monsters specifically up to level 12, 14, 17, and 20. Synthesizing at these levels, gives you a higher chance of passing down extra skill points to the offspring monster. If possible, always aim to have 3 skill points.
Some skills can be levelled up to produce even higher-level skills. Allocating talent points to known talents can yield superior skills when passed down to offspring monsters when you synthesize.
It is recommended to have 3-4 attackers on your team, and just have healers on standby. Having healers on standby and focusing primarily on offense will save you time when scouting and dealing with enemy monsters.
However, when it comes to important fights like boss battles, it is recommended to have at least 2 healers as these fights tend to be lengthy and having just one healer may not be enough to juggle healing and attacking the enemy
It takes time and effort to give out orders to each monster and wait for them to follow and execute said orders. You can set your Tactics to let your monsters focus on key points in battle like attacking mercilessly, providing support and healing, and only focusing on damaging instead of defeating enemies.

Tips to Increase Scout Rate |
---|
└ When using either moves, compare which of the stats Attack and Wisdom are higher. └ Chances of a successful scout is higher when using meat-based items. |
Some monsters will be more difficult to Scout than others, but gaining them as an ally is huge power upgrade to your team. Consider using skills like Oomph and Ping as these are good buffs for your monsters, especially those with higher Attack and Wisdom stats. Having buffed up stats will make it easier to reduce your enemy's HP.
During your tutorial, Fizzy will teach you the basics of scouting monsters. If you can't scout them easily, you can always try to defeat them in battle.
Using meat-based items such as Porkchop, Rib, and Sirloin makes enemies like you a lot and will make it more likely that they will join you after battle. Using meat-based items will make it easier to scout monsters by increasing your scout rate and the chance of a monster joining you.

◯ means that the family affects that particular stat growth.
A monster's stat growth is affected by the six (6) ancestors in its lineage. For example, if you wish to increase the Attack stat growth, synthesizing with monsters of the Dragon Family and Material Family will influence that stat's growth.
If each grandparent is of different lineage to each other, then the maximum of all stats for the child will be increased. For maximizing the Attack Stats, it is best to choose these families for a monster's grandparents: Dragon, Material, Demon, and ???.
You can raise a monster child's maximum stat growth even further by having its parents' level at 100 when they are set for syhnthesis. The maximum stat increase affected by a family can be increased as high as 20%.
When synthesizing, Sparkling Brightly monster variants may be born out of them. The maximum value of one of their stats is randomly increased by up to 100.
However, the chances of such variant being the result of synthesis is low (around 5%), so you will have to be patient with the synthesis process if you wish to get them.
The stat affected by the monster's Sparkling Brightly condition cannot be observed via appearance.
To identify a change in stats, raise the level of the non-Sparkling Brightly monster first in advance. Once the Sparkling Brightly monster has been born, raise it to the same level again and compare it with the previous monster to check what stat has been affected.
